1.Clean engine if only you havent driven yer car to make the engine hot.
2.Open yer hood.
3.Cover Alternator, filter(if exposed),Coil pack
4.Spray as much as you want/can with Simple Green
5.Let that sit for about 10-15 min
6.Rinse off with hose, dont not powerwash!
7.Think about me when you look at your clean bay!

You can also use a tire cleaner or something to that nature as well. And really no reason to cover the Alt. or coils, just don't use a power washer, like stated above.

Not necessarily, dont spray simple green in it and dont shoot the hose directly into it. If you're careful, you dont need to cover the alt. You can to be safe, but you dont have to.

I've never had simple green not work. If its REALLY bad, you may need to scrub it a little bit. That's all i've ever used tho.

cleaned-the-engine-bay-t8615.html

First we covered the filter on the intake, the battery and the alternator. I bought some Engine Bright engine degreaser. Sprayed down the whole engine trying to stay away from belts, and the pcm. But literally everywhere else. We let that sit for about 20 mins to soak in and cut through the dirt. Afterwards we took a hose and set it on a mist spray and sprayed all the parts we hit with the degreaser. Right away the dirt started falling off with the water. which was great. Started the car and let it run for about 15 mins to dry. I also bought some CD2 Engine Detailer per BuffaloSS instruction and recovered all the suspect areas before spraying, and sprayed down the engine again. The CD2 works as more of a coating to give your engine that shiney appearance. After that, there is no need to spray with water again, just start the car and let dry. We used regular soap and water to clean the engine cover. And the next day i popped the hood and took a damp towel and just detailed the engine with the damp rag.

The whole job itself was ALOT more simple than i was making it out to be. i was really afraid to fry the engine, but it turned out great and it didnt take long with minimal work.

The best to use is red hot de-greaser, if you can get your hands on some. Try your local dealership. As for spraying your engine bay you do not have to cover anything, Just be sure to blow off all access water or let the engine dry completely, doesn't take long with hood open.

i agree your engine bay is designed to have water on it. other then your air box you dont have to cover anything. all your electrical connetions are water tight and everything else gets wet from daily use, car washes, and other things. ive spent many many hours cleaning my engine bays and never had a problem

i do agree simple green and water is the way to go. some tough areas may require a tad bit of scrubbing but nothing compared to other cleaning products. another tip is dont use any kind of shine on it like tire dressing or engine shine. especialy if its a greasy formula youll find your engine 3x ditier 3x faster

I've been wanting to have mine steam cleaned by someone who knows how to do it. There's a couple of detail shops around here that have advertised it. I was thinking about using the simple green and hosing method, but I think I wouldn't remember to cover every electrical item up. I'd prefer to take it to someone who at least has done it before.

Dude....if i can do it myself, you can do it. its probably the easiest thing you can do. easier than washin the car itself. if you can spray a can then you can do it

I've used the pressure washer on mine and never had a problem. Just don't use the really high pressure nozzle. I have a small 1400 max psi karcher (at least I did until it died at the end of the summer, pressure washers are like dvd players anymore, disposable) and use the spread nozzle. Cleans up really well with some engine bay cleaner from AZ.

I detailed professionally for 4 years and not once did I have a problem with getting water on anything other than the Airfilter. If you have a problem with just spraying a normal hose on any electrical part under your hood, then you have other problems such as faulty parts etc. You can cover the Alt. and fuse box to be safe, but it isn't a MUST.

When I worked for the dealer (used, small lot) I always took an air hose to the engine to blow out where there may have been water laying.

Granted, I think once the engine got warm, it would have evaporated, but they always wanted me to do that.
