Well Im not paying 200 bucks for them, so I thought WTF lets go for it...

I think its gunna work bc of all the other appearance mods. Id never slap them on an otherwise stock GP... to me it looks silly... LOL

Interested to see how it would look on your modded GP. It looks kinda silly on a non-modded GP, IMO.

^ This, someone will always be willing to pay more than what you paid.

I'm curious to see the outcome :)

If that is who I am thinking of then asshat doesn't even begin to describe the kind of supreme douche that kid was.

I don't mind the way roof rails look but I don't get why anyone would pay hundreds for them. If you got em cheap, why not though. I am a cheap ass though and would probably sell them since people pay so much for them rather than use them

I wrapped the rails in that carbon wrap, it looks stupid and out of place up there. Just letting you know... I spent a good hour and a half or more making it stretch/fit one rail by it's lonesome. Anyways, they do not fit for ****, and I am still working on mine (well, I was, I put the project down for a bit, but I will start up again shortly).

The problem is, for one, they are too short. The second one is, they aren't wide enough at each end and look tacky from above. The most awesome part, is elongating them, and getting them to sit flush with the windshield reveal mouldings.

Since our roof isn't as curved as the older style cars, there will be a serious need for something more sticky than 3M double-sided tape to keep them flush in their groove.

Once you pull out your stock rail pieces, you'll see what I am saying. Anyways, maybe we can come up with a solution together, since I have been building them up and sanding/moulding as I go. Taking a good amount of time, due to cure time, etc.

Here are some old photos-

To short I wouldn't extend them unless you plan on not selling them...honestly I think your car has enough going on that you can do w/o the rood rails.

I have given all of this some great deal of thought, and have alot of ideas to overcome said challenges.

I will give this away at this point... my entire roof is going to be carbon fiber including the rails... and the dinoc material Im using is extremely easy to work with and manipulate (true 1080 3M dinoc). Heck I successfully wrapped my Oakleys in the stuff...

You get the idear...
Image

If I wasnt confident with the outcome I wouldnt even go there.

Have faith people. Its me. LOL

Im not ready to share ideas just yet... Only bc I want to see it turn out first. When its done I will post a full install thread with pics. I promise.

And if its a collossal fail, Ill own up to that too... ;)

Lastly, I get that it wont be for everybody, but if Im happy with it then that's good enough for me. :)

I'm liking the CF roof idea for sure. Can't say I'm a fan of the rails however. They just look strange in comparison to the rest of the body lines of the car. Ridges on roof = 2 thumbs down IMO.

Same stuff I used... When you have to stretch it 100x with a heatgun, to be able to wrap the rails, you'll see. I kept rubbing alcohol nearby to keep wiping my fingertips to aid with any oil contamination, but it still collects on the di-noc, making it less sticky at the edges. I had left a lot of additional material so I wouldn't be working with those areas I wanted to adhere, but when I was getting near the end (tucking it under the rail), that's when it became a bitch.

I have thought about doing my roof as well, but I don't know how well it will hold up at the sunroof area. If you can cut it perfectly at the lip of the moulding, you may be fine. I think my glass sits a bit lower at one side, so I figured I'd have to wrap the edge as well, which is where the fun begins. You have to make slits to be able to do a round corner (I did my spokes on my steering wheel, major PITA). If those are slit in those areas, I am positive that using the sunroof will catch/pull on those corners making it lift/rip, etc.

Anywho, let's see your progress!
