I have given all of this some great deal of thought, and have alot of ideas to overcome said challenges.

I will give this away at this point... my entire roof is going to be carbon fiber including the rails... and the dinoc material Im using is extremely easy to work with and manipulate (true 1080 3M dinoc). Heck I successfully wrapped my Oakleys in the stuff...

Same stuff I used... When you have to stretch it 100x with a heatgun, to be able to wrap the rails, you'll see. I kept rubbing alcohol nearby to keep wiping my fingertips to aid with any oil contamination, but it still collects on the di-noc, making it less sticky at the edges. I had left a lot of additional material so I wouldn't be working with those areas I wanted to adhere, but when I was getting near the end (tucking it under the rail), that's when it became a bitch.

I have thought about doing my roof as well, but I don't know how well it will hold up at the sunroof area. If you can cut it perfectly at the lip of the moulding, you may be fine. I think my glass sits a bit lower at one side, so I figured I'd have to wrap the edge as well, which is where the fun begins. You have to make slits to be able to do a round corner (I did my spokes on my steering wheel, major PITA). If those are slit in those areas, I am positive that using the sunroof will catch/pull on those corners making it lift/rip, etc.

Anywho, let's see your progress!

Dave aka drunkie has his roof wrapped with a sunroof and no reported issues that I know of...

-- Sat Jan 28, 2012 9:18 am --

To give you an idear... My cf fender hashes and cf on my side view mirrors has not budged. No lifting, no fraying... I get that the sunroof will be a moving part rubbing against the stuff, but I'm still not too worried. I'm ordering the vinyl today. ;)

Oh, even my cf door handles are holding up nicely... ;)

The serious lack of snow this season is really sad, I can't go skiing at all.

The mountains this year all around me are just bad, it just rained on them all day yesterday. Sad really

Lookin' good gary.

Yeah my roof overlay is holding up just fine, but that is also because my car never sees the light of day LOL

-- Sat Jan 28, 2012 4:53 pm --

FYI 3M now has a better Carbon fiber vinyl wrap out.

Scrotchprint (scotchprint) 1080 Carbon Fiber, its meant for exterior use

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/e ... eries1080/

I went on ebay and ordered all 3 samples of carbon fiber vinyl stuff (spent like $5 total) just to see what all of them were like, the new 3m one wins HANDS DOWN, it has a full texture to it.

the 3 carbon fiber wraps available:
-3m di-noc
-3m scrotchprint (sorry can't help it)
-Metro M500-M600 stuff

I can't really capture the reasons why the 3m scrotchprint and Metro stuff is better then di-noc, but its obvious when you get it in the mail and you see the color changes and what not.

For the sake of consistency, Im going with what Ive already started to use (that and Im lazy and dont feel like re-doing stuff...LOL)...

But... I am also looking for silver......

I feel your pain Dave... first year Ive ever invested in some decent snows on the car and we've had like 2 snow days here... and even then nothing serious... That and I got a snowblower, never in my life have I had one before... and used it once, and even then I didnt really need to, just wanted the excuse to use it... LOL

I was thinking about doing my roof solid black but was going to have it painted when I get everything else done rather than the vinyl. Curious to see how this turns out for that part mainly.

Update:

So the ebay vendor that I successfully used last year sent me 3M Scotchcal film instead of dinoc...

Scotchcal is thinner, comes on a white paper backing, and more prone to creasing and wrinkling.

So even though they advertised dinoc in the listing, they sent me the cheap shit...

That being said I sent them an email to let them know.

Im awaiting their response...

Hopefully I dont have to get nasty.

Ask if you provide a receipt for the cost of return freight if they'll deduct it off the cost of the original purchase? Seems kinda silly you have to cover their mistake, unless they are accusing you of not reading the details properly on the item you purchased.

May as well ask, can't hurt!

Im going to wait for their initial response first and go from there...

The listing said di-noc and is identical (apart from the dimensions) to the last one I bought, so yeah, their fault not mine...

Do you happen to have any pictures of your steering wheel spokes in carbon fiber? I started doing them last year and gave up because i couldn't get it to look nice around the buttons. Im thinking if I take the spoke covers right out, and remove the buttons I will be able to do alot better job. Did you do it with the steering wheel/airbag still in the car or did you take it out?

I took the airbag out, and the spokes off. It came out nicely, except for one button where I cut it too much on an angle, so I can see a lil bit of silver. I'll go grab a pic and post it

To avoid hijacking this thread (sorry Mr. Angry), go here- 04-08-grand-prix-discussion-f19/di-noc-steering-wheel-spokes-and-b-pillar-adjuster-t27102.html

^^Its ok...

-- Tue Feb 07, 2012 10:53 pm --

Ok, so firstly I want to say FAIL to vendor AutosportX (aka http://www.autogoody.com) on ebay for sending me Scotchcal Carbon fiber film and not DiNoc... I will be giving them bad feed back... But anyways...

One last thing... I wont be wrapping the roof of the car just yet... Two reasons: a) wrong material sent and b) still too cold for an outdoor application...

That being said, since I have zero patience, I went ahead and wrapped my rails this afternoon and got them on the car:

Image

So I have to stress... once you start peeling off the stock rails, there is no turning back. They are made of light weight metal, and are fixed in place with an adhesive strip, so unfortunately, they are screwed once you get them off...

Image

Placement before applying GE Clear silicone...

Image

Held down with tape until the Silicone sets (sorry the car is dusty/dirty)...

Image

Another shot...

PS: Will take better pics the next time the car is cleaned up... :)

Now for some cf on the deck lid to even it all out. I've always thought your car was a little front heavy on the black, and the rails help even out the look.

Did you just apply them on top of your factory rails, or did you remove them?
