I just wrote and email to General Motors regarding all the paint chips on the front of the G8. I am curious to see what happens with this, Many other owners are having the same issues.

At the same time, you should have reminded them about the chrome torque star rims that peel......I still can't believe they did NOTHING about this problem!!!

If the nose gets repainted the car wont leave the shop until the clear bra is put on. I will have them go and do it right then and there. This is complete bs, No reason there should be that many chips in the paint already.

If GM doesn't back me up, I will end up having you repaint it.

good luck. GM dont give a f*** about stuff like this. my 98 Regal had peeling paint on almost every body panel and they wouldnt even admit there is a problem. they said it was likely repainted...then they said that it was likely bad primer...blah blah blah. turns out there WAS a service campaign on some models for bad UV inhibitor in the paint, but i was outside the extended window for customer satisfaction. bullshit. if i didnt work at GM, and have 25 years worth of pensionable earnings there, i would wish these braindead, pennypinching hacks go out of business.

if i was in your shoes, i would call the pontiac 1-800 number from the owners manual and complain long and often. take down the names of the people you talk to, ask for details about when you can expect to hear back from them and if you dont, call them back and ask for their supervisor. be polite, but be a pain in the ass to them. i know the chipping paint is a PITA for you, so pay it back to GM. and get your buddies with a similar problem to do the same.

I got a call from GM this morning and I am taking the car to the dealer where I bought it from and the body shop manager is going to look it over. The guy on the phone told me he was going to follow up on this and was going to handle whatever needed to be done when it came down to repainting the front of the car.

Worst come to worst, I will take this shit to small claims court.

Good luck, they aren't going to to shit except maybe repaint your hood. This is a very, very common problem among Holden vehicle shipped over here (aka GTOs and G8s). My GTO got the hood re-cleared about a month after the previous owner bought it back in 2005. GM won't repaint anything except maybe door handles on GTOs and only if you're under factory warranty. It's an issue, GM doesn't think it is, they probably won't fix it but they will tell you to be more careful which is my secondary advice too. I got a few small chips on the GTO but it's not worth tail-gating someone just to get rockchips.

I will become GM's nightmare when that that happens, There's no reason for a car with 11,000 miles on it to have that many chips in the paint.
Here's the thread http://forum.grrrr8.net/showthread.php?t=13618

Don't get me wrong, I have sympathy for you. All of the GTO guys have the same issues and it is something that we have been dealing with since day 1 in 2004. The paint on my door handles was horrible when I traded it in, and I had one spot on the fender where the paint was coming off. It's some issue with Aussi paint I would assume, or maybe it's a general GM thing, but my Vette has no issues and the paint definitely has a different feel to it. No, it's not right, but they won't fix it unless they do decide to respray and/or reclear yours just this once. The paint also fades, so watch for that if you leave it outside for awhile over a period of a couple years. A lot of the guys in the GTO club look like their cars are balding.

After the 5000 highway miles across the country I've put on my Goat since buying it in December, it looks like someone with a shotgun loaded with birdshot got me. The paint is ridiculously easy to chip/mar/scratch. GM really dropped the ball on this one. Hopefully you are able to have a little success and get your practically new ride squared away.

Just got back from the dealer, The body shop manager said this is an on going problem. He said the plastic is very soft which is playing a huge roll in the paint chipping off. He told me that he has no problem fixing it if GM pays for it, So tomorrow I am going to give them a call and see what happens. I am going to get this fixed one way or another, It's driving me insane.

Actually Flip, some people did get them repainted... some of them were still under factory warranty and others bought GMP extended warranties.. (great investment btw) but most people didn't get them repainted, like me..

The GM white should be called White Hot or whatever it is called in AU.

My 05 GP's bumper paint is total shit. Clear is peeling off all over the place. All around the front plate and the drivers fog light. I don't care anymore, but it pisses me off whenever I see it. I'd get it repainted if it was more than just a DD.

I know this isn't about the G8 but my poor GTP CompG has seen better days with her hood as well. And what about your windshields?????? Mine is horrible, it has tons of little chip markings in the windshield and they will not come out. No matter how clean my window is, I have tons of little chips in the windshield and when the sun hits it, oh my it is horrible. Talk about soft glass maybe it's because of the HUD windshield. I don't know but I have never had a windshield do what this one has done.

I rather have pits in the windshield than the paint, Waiting to hear back from GM. I got a feeling they are going to fix it for me because even the manager at the body shop said it's soft plastic and they are all doing it.
