Hello, My name is Marc Letourneau and I currently own a 2009 Pontiac G8 GT that I bought back in September of 2009. I have noticed excessive paint chips on the front bumper, and also on the hood. I started to do research on this and found that it was a common problem for these vehicles, And some owners were not having luck having it covered by the bumper to bumper warranty. My car currently has 11,500 miles and I am pretty disappointed with the results as far as the paint goes and I believe that having this much money invested into this automobile it should be covered by my bumper to bumper warranty. As far as the rest of the car is concerned I really do love the car and wouldn't trade it for the world, But something needs to be done about this. I may sound arrogant for complaining about paint chips but I take great pride in my Pontiac G8 and so shouldn't General Motors. My two previous vehicles were Pontiac's and I did not have an issue like this one, I want to stay faithful to General Motors but I need GM to stay faithful to me. Thank you for your time, My information will be provided below.

This is word for word. You get the idea, Don't be an ass to them though. They worked very well with me and stood behind everything they told me they would do thus far.

I sent the email to CAC@Pontiac.com. From there I was sent to talk to the body shop manager to have them look at it. After that the district manager handled the situation giving the Ok to fix the car. I sent the email last Sunday, and I got the final response on Friday. I hope everything goes well and be done with it.

I was talking to two G8 guys yesterday at a car show, and one is having the issues with this very much. Someone lightly backed into him and it took paint off. The other is overly caution with his so I doubt his has any chips.. but yeah it's an issue among Holden born Pontiacs.

When I went to talk to the body shop manager about it he had two G8's there that were in accidents and the front bumpers were in terrible condition. He said the same thing, It's a problem among the vehicles.

I got into it with them BIG TIME over that. I called GM customer service, wrote a letter to the head of GM which earned me a phone call from "Executive Customer Service", talked to my local TV station, they called GM and talked to the same people...

The response was always "pound sand".

GM is fixing the G8 free of charge. Just need to get the car down to them so they can fix it.

i did not know later GMs had such a problem my 03 minivan is fine on the paint. (the hood is another story though it's doing something weird)

It was a pretty easy process too, Took about a week to get the final word. Very happy with GM and I will remember this when I go to buy another vehicle.

That's awesome that you got GM to take care of a paint issue like that! Kudos to you! I would have never even began to think about contacting GM directly let alone getting a response and action out of them.

Question....


When you had the clear bra installed, did they just put one on the hood, or did they do both the hood and the bumper?
And, did you have to pay for that?


I ask because my G8 already has one on the front end of the hood...so i dont have any chips there, however, there are MANY MANY chips on the bumper....
(Espically since im in Yuma, AZ....)
