On Saturday I tried to start my car about 4 times. It turns over but it wouldn't start. A few days later I tried it again and it started but my husband said it was a hard start. You can hear the fuel pump and we checked the fuel pressure regulator. It's not my battery because I just had it checked to see how much life I had left in it. The car sat for almost 2 weeks till I tried to start it that Saturday. Yesterday I drove it for about 15 minutes around town and it ran fine.. Wednesday im gonna take it to O'Rileys and get it scanned. Got any ideas?

is it just clicking, or like the yin yin yin noise of it trying to turn over? as always i will suggest a cleaning of the throttle body, mine started up kinda rough until i cleaned it (as in it would die from time to time instantly after start up, which killed my cool haha) so that may be the problem, is it throwing a light or are you just getting it check for safety?

I had a similar issue and after a week of hard starts decided it didn't want to start anymore :( ended up being the fuel pump. Here's a trick if you have a open cone intake. Try to crank the car and meanwhile have some spray a little starter fluid in the intake...that will tell you if your having a issue w/ fuel and more then likely would be the fuel pump. but of course have it scanned @ autozone first btw I didn't have any codes myself.

Well it don't die after starting it still runs. The light idk about because I don't have a cat so it's on all the time anyways. The fuel pump is good because you can hear it run when you start the car.

Just because it runs doesn't mean it is good. It means it runs. If it is weak, or can't supply enough volume, it's bad. I'd suspect a bad fuel pump myself. Just because pressure is good doesn't mean volume is.

I'm wondering if there is a problem with spark? Coils rarely go on these but you never know...

Sounds like the fuel pump is priming...

Have you replaced the fuel filter recently? If not I would try that.

Bingo, Don. I never even thought of that. Easy fix, and probably needs to be done anyhow.

I'm not saying it's your fuel pump but there's a simple way to find out, beg, borrow buy or steal a fuel pressure gauge and hook it up temporarily to the schrader valve on fuel rail and check your key on and run pressures. Hard start can some times be caused when your fuel lines lose pressure while car is off. Did you key on(prime) twice before trying to start to see if that helps?
Just because you can hear a fuel pump prime or run dosn't mean it it's not a problem in some cases. They do sometimes slowly die and lose pressure, I had a 99 that had stalling issues because of a dying fuel pump, car ran great until pump heated up and undercar heat and a low fuel level would make it worse as the car would run great all winter.
To make a long story short don't ever not suspect a fuel pump just because you hear it prime or hear it running.
