The drive home was fun and I proved once again, that a h8 don't mean everything. But as I got closer to home it started missing so I figured I would baby it home and see what was up later. Well no such luck. I pulled up to a stop sign and it stalled., it fired back up but had a good size cloud of white. Got it about a mile up the road to a buddys house and parked it in his yard overnight. I will het it in the morning and see if I can pin point it. I am thinking either intake or head gasket. :-(

On a plus note I am going to go look into buying the 40th that I had worked on a little while back.

could be a the intercooler core. i remember one time at MGM one failed and every one was sure it was a head gasket until the S/C was removed

not for sure. will be pulling it apart sometime after i get the 97 "out of the way" either fixed or sold. but there is definatly coolent going through the cylenders. you can smell it and it belches white smoke while running. need to check the oil for coolant and pull the plugs and go from there.

The LIM gaskets can do this as well. Hopefully, it is something simple and will be an easy fix for ya.

Yep lim or.head gaskets. I am hoping just lim. But wont know for sure till.I get in there. Making me consider not putting the ic back on tho. I couldn't get it to bleed the air out last time I tried. And I am almost done fighting with it.

turbo build, A2A I/c setup, no need to worry about fluid to bleed air from :D

hey hey, be nice. i wont go turbo. i had second thoughts about running it before i even put it on, but decided i had it so why the hell not. i am just having second thoughts again.

besides a cammed low 13 high 12 sec dd is plenty really anyway. i will give it one more try before i give up on it, i think i am gonna try to mount the pump low enough to force prime it. and try one more time.

ok, so i finally got the chance to spend a couple hours and tear it down..

so i get it down this far, and find the intake gaskets look fine to me..

Image

so i think, duh.. pull the plugs and see where the issue is, mayby i wont have to pull both heads.. yah that sounds like a plan.. so i pull them..

Image

and really get to looking at them.. (they are in order as if you where looking at the motor from the drivers seat. ie top plugs are front bottoms rear, to the right is the pass side left is driver) and see them and think.. well shit.. thats not good..

Image

so with two damaged on the front i pulled it. and with one looking like it was the coolent on the rear i pulled it too..

Image

and here is what i found.. the rears looked fine, just a blown gasket.. but the front side, not so good.. (the last pic of the piston is my new phone background.. lol..)

Image

Image

Image

so at this point, i have some more work to do......... again........ i will fix, but i am very unsure at this point of how much i am gonna do. i am starting to get a bit discouraged. (allthough i know that part of that is because the extra stress and responsibility with the situation with my dad.)

i will swap over most stuff to the 110k n/a motor i have sitting here. i will swap the cam, timing, heads and upper end (the top end only has a few thousand miles on fresh parts, if that much so i will reuse them as is.), swap over the studs.. i am however debating largely if i will continue with the i/c or not. i am thinking i will do a basic mild xp topswap setup and just pully back a size or two (3.1 or 3.2) and just make the damn thing reliable and put my energy elsewear. even that mild will still be a nice fun dd for summer. but it will sit as is till spring at least. possibly longer. at this point i am in no hurry, i need a break from working on them all summer, and need the extra energy to help mom and dad with all of the latest issues.

when i do get back to it i will probly do some things like projectors, leds, and some other visual stuff, it will still perform but i will do some looks stuff for a change..

I am wonderingif that was a factor. Being pullied down and had it quit flowing and I didn't catch it. But it didn't start missing till the same day it started chugging coolent. And I had the 3.0 on that day and didn't start getting kr till it started missing. So I don't know. I know the setup that the pcm is tuned for so I will replicate the build and just Pully back a size or two and call it good. Thinking about ditching the ic and just driving it for a while. Getting tired of working on it.

Almost glad to see I am not the only one. I did mine backing into my barn which the edge of the concrete is a few inches higher than the ground outside ( I need to do some fill apparently. Raised anything + lowered car = bad.
