I am wondering if anyone knows the weight in grams of the stock rockers and push rods? i am crunching the numbers of my new valve train vs the stock. so far my new springs/ retainers/ locks are heavier then the stock but the new valves i have are lighter. i have yet to weigh the push rods that came with my new rockers yet but i will post the info i have so far:

Item / Stock / New / brand
Rocker / ??g / 184g / SLP 1.8 RR
Springs,retainers,locks / 81g / 87g / 105#, retainers, comp locks
Exh Valve / 85g / 83.5g / Si 1.52 valves
Int Valve / 103g / 97g / Si 1.8 valves

so far it looks like im saving 45g in the valves, but i have gained 72g with the springs. so i am 27g heavier then stock right now... hopefully the rockers and push rods save me some. i know the heavier weight springs will put more load on the timing set too... but in just looking at pure rotating mass right now. So if anyone has a scale and a stock rocker and push rod i would love to know what the weight is. If not i will have to wait till i tear it all down and throw them on the scale to get matching weight compare.

on a side note, seeing as the exhaust valves are nearly the same weight as the stock... if i had to do this over again i would just have gotten stock valves for the exhaust. its very possible that 1.5 grams are just carbon build up on the stock valve....

What sort of build are you doing that you're so concerned with the weight of your valvetrain especially when rockers, push rods, valve, etc aren't rotating mass? I'm quite intrigued because this does sound interesting.

only time valve train weight should be an issue is if you spin it over 7,000

the lighter the componets the reduction of valve float (valve stays open becuase of the centriphical force)

i would not worrie about a weight of the pring only the pressure of it as the spring wheight is not what keeps the valve open it is the weight of the retainer and keapers.

pushrod is another thing you sould not get a lighter vertion of the lighter push rods are weaker and can bend easer resalting in damage especialy in a dailey driver they are really only supose to be used in a race car that gets the engine rebuilt every few passes

the stock cast rickers are pretty heavy so going with an aftermarket aluminum rocker would help like yella terra, SLP, harland sharp, and if you want to risk it INTENSE

I already have the SLP 1.8 rockers. i and just trying to figure out how much of a difference in weight they are compared to stock. so like the title says... does anyone know the weight of the stock rockers and push rods.

its not a major concern. i just want to know. also i would reason that the heavier the valve train compontents the more stress on the timing set. so if i am at or bellow the stock weight there wont be much additional stress if any on it. meaning no need for upgraded timing set. and if and when it is time to replace the timing set a new stock set will be fine.

Don't know why I didn't think of it before but I know we have a digital scale that goes down to grams and plenty of stock components, I will try to remember to grab a push rod and rocker and see what they come in at.
