So i might be getting another GP soon...near my place there is a shot 2003...but the real gem is the engine, it only has 40,000 km on it. I was looking at doing a top-swap. I have a good idea what to look for, and ZZPerformance has a "kit" for the swap. I think its essentially just a gasket kit from what i can tell. My two concerns are:
1) Will my transmission hold out...its a normal 4T65, not an HD, but I drive gently, most of the time :)
2)Factory GTP's have KR to begin with, not enough to notice...but with the increased compression, will ZZP's intercooler, and an efficient exhaust and intake be enough to stop detonation, if I'm running the stock 3.8 inch pulley?

if you top swap you will eventually blow the tranny
i think steve is one of the few who has a non-hd that is holding up

it's just a matter of time

no steve has a HD tranny with 3.29 gear ratio technicly

it was a none HD but i compleatly upgraded and rebuilt it before modding including adding a HD diff and out put shaft. only thing it does not have is the single chain drive still has the stock gemini dual chain drive

Yea I've read that those are the main differnces...the diff, out-put shaft, and chain...how hard/expensive would it be to upgrade those?

chain is the the same

to upgrade the diff the trans basicly has to be compleatly torn down to get the output shaft out

For the amount of work involved in the top swap and if you're planning on buying the whole car for parts why not just swap in the entire motor tranny combo. With only 40 k on motor/tranny it would be an exellent combo if you were planning more mods.

i'd go top swap but do the tranny swap as well like mentioned above ^ , unless there's somethin about the tranny such as tap shift ECT that's gonna make it just to difficult to be worth it, but top swap > N/A hands down, as far as the stock KR, i really wouldn't be worried about it that much as long as your not VTAC YO'n it you should be ok specialy since it's getting cooler (or is that just a myth herd it was easier or forced induction cars) if your really worried about it just go get a set of SPEED DADDY headers from Ebay, pretty cheap and a lot of people use them with good results

The issue is that the transmission is shot...the owner put a low-milage engine in front of a high-milage trans (oops...). Even if the trans was ok, its still not an HD. Its of no use to me, from what I've been told so far on here lol.
