Ok, I've traded my DD 00 GT in a couple years ago on a 09 G8 GT. The G8 is definitely a garage queen with only 4500 mile on it so far. I've gotten the itch to get another Grand Prix and always loved the 97-03 body styling. I've had some luck with cars.com locating a few with less than 50,000 miles and similarly equipped to the one i traded in. I originally had the stock stereo with the equalizer built in and the digital dual climate control. I just found a vehicle nearby with the stereo with just the bass/treble adjustments, and non-digital dual zone climate control. Is it possible to swap these units if i can find them? I think the digital climate control showed the exterior temperature so an exterior temp sensor may be involved.
I am more concerned with the stereo head unit. The stock one with the equalizer built in was probably the best stock system that i've had in a vehicle and i'm not sure how it compares to the one without the equalizer.

Thanks!!

if it has a the analog dual zone it is a 01+ and they never had digital instea they had the analog. you could swap in the A/C but it's not worth it and its a huge pain in the rear becuase everu thing has to be swapped out. the HVAC duckting sensors wiring harness and sensors

the equalizer realy does not help eather i have had cars with and with out it and really they all sound the same. only thing that sounds diffrent is bose and most of the time bose came with the normal bass/treb

Dealer is asking $8000 for 48000 miles. One owner, clean carfax. I'm hoping i can get it for $7000

It was a 7 band equalizer and i could really change the sound for the better by adjusting each band. IMO it had pretty decent sound at high volumes.

aftermarket eq w/ good components and 8" subs instead of 6x9's

i had the 7 channel and w/ factory wiring in wasn't worth it.

After driving the 01 and listening to the stock stereo with just the treble/bass adjustments it was no where near as good as my 00 with the equalizer settings. Maybe the amp needed adjustment? Where is the amp in the 00's? In the years i had mine i never noticed it....but the 01 appeared to be under the rear deck, unless that was the onstar.

Aftermarket HU. The GF's 97 had the 7 band EQ and it sounded terrible compared to the same speakers with just an aftermarket HU. To me aftermarket HU's even sound better than the Bose systems that came on these cars.

OK, I picked up a 7 band EQ head unit with an mp3 jack installed on eBay. The unit sounds awesome using the CD player and mp3 player. Audio is much improved and has some extra bass ...enough to vibrate the mirrors. The only issue seems to be FM....the bass on it seems to be very overpowering unless the EQ sliders are all they way down. Is there a way to turn the factory amp down? I've felt all around the unit and can't find a knob. I don't think my 00 even had an amp.....unless it was behind the dash. Thanks!

Thanks Mater! I played around with it some more and by putting the slider all the way to the left....all the way down, it doesn't sound bad. Still has some bass, but not overpowering anymore. I'm going to pull it out tomorrow and check for those adjustment screws.

I had my amp out completely and the only screws were the torx (sp?) Screws.
The work around I found that seems to work well. Leave the far left EQ slider all the way down....unless you want some thump ....then raise it.
Does the amp just amplify the rear speakers? Debating removing it.

Just for kicks I tried disconnecting both connections to the amp. I lost all sound with either disconnected.

the 4" should work with out the amp if they do not that means there is an issue with them as they get power directly form the head unit

I ended up disconnecting one of the rear 6x9's. I can now set the EQ like I used to and still get alot of mirror/seat vibrating bass.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this before.....but I took out the 2 slider head unit and put in the 7 band EQ model. The only issue I've had in controlling the ton of bass that I have now.....that I didn't have with the 2 slider HU. I'm betting the issue is caused by the amp....my 2000 GT had this same HU, but no amp (at least not one that I ever saw).
