So This is one of my first posts on here but I just have a question about pulleys. So tonight I was at my mechanics shop who i trust my car with my life. Anyways he told me i should drop my pulley down to a 3.4 which i've always been interested in. I told him everyone tells me in order to do that i need headers. He said i would be totally fine with my set up now and that i should just do sparks and wires, and an intake. Does this sound remotely possible or would something go seriously wrong? he said as long as the car has a MAF it should be fine because its reading how much air intake is coming into the car. Correct me if im wrong, any advice would help. thanks

You will see knock. Knock = potential chipping of pistons. You need headers, powerlog, or 3" downpipe at minimum + mods you mentioned, other then the wires.

You don't need fancy wires, but replacing them is a good idea. Anyway, other than that, what he ^^ said.

Sounds like your mechanic needs to learn that a MAF isn't a "save-all" or for that matter what a S/C even does i.e. creates heat and lots of it. Let's see a MAF try to compensate for the superheated air being shoved into the motor.
As said, get some plugs (don't need "performance" wires at Mike said but now's a great time to replace them with something up to OEM standards), intake, and go with headers (do it right the first time). You can get headers now for 200 bucks so you can't beat that.

If you're replacing wires, get AC Delco wires. They are truly hard to beat.
