So, most of you have heard about my girlfriends 97 GT, well, I thought it would finally be a good time to make a build thread for it and tell a little about the cars history and what is planned for the future. Without further ado I give you… Jade as known as Project Pink Power!!!!!!

Let’s start at the beginning of her ownership. She picked it up in September of 2009. She was leaning towards a smaller car, but she loved how Kyle_99_GTP’s car looked and I couldn’t complain since my family has had 8 GP’s in the past 10 years and I’ve loved them all. I used to have an 04 myself, but it’s now my grandma’s (ironic I know) but I still get to take it for a spin sometimes. Anyway, it had 140,000 on the clock and had a leaking valve cover, surprise surprise, and had a rust hole in the quarter panel underneath the gas door. Again what a surprise. Other than that the car just needed a good cleaning, some TLC and replacing of some minor parts here and there like the door hinges and a tune up. But she got it for a steal so no complaints at all.
Image
Image
So, in the first few weeks of owning it we replaced the driver’s side door hinges, front valve cover gaskets, plugs, wires, flipped the upper motor mounts, and put some new coil packs on and a new 02 sensor (thanks to Kyle). Man the engine bay was dirty back then.

A couple weeks later, we put an intake on real quick just because the stock airbox is such a pain and takes up way too much space, and a 90 degree bend from the box to the tube?!?!?!?! That’s not going to fly. Then one day her and I were talking and she said “we should do something pink with the car.” Well, that idea took off fast. Next thing you know, got some high temp pink paint (again thanks Kyle) and went at the upper motor mounts, cross bars, and intake. Shortly after I did all the brakes and painted the calipers pink to go along with the theme.
Image
And I’ve always wanted to try to tint tails myself so she gave me the green light to go do that as well. We also did the “sequential turn signal mod” with the tails, which is actually pretty cool for being a free mod.
Image
Not sure what she’s doing here.
Image
Next she wanted to get rid of the stock grills, but didn’t want to spend all the money for FIGs, so we tried to make our own. I bought some honeycomb aluminum from eBay (20 bucks for a sheet of 4’x5’ so we have a ton of this stuff if anyone wants some) and tried to bend in into the stock grills shape. They still aren’t perfect and we haven’t done the lowers yet, but they look pretty good in person.
Image
Of course now that the car started to look nicer, she wanted some tunes and the stock HU just wasn’t cutting it for her. I knew a friend selling an Alpine HU for a good price so I snatched it up and installed it. A couple weeks later, she blew the rear deck speakers haha, so we got some new Rockford Fosgate speakers for back there. It sounds pretty good now, but of course will never be enough for her, haha.
Image
The HU also supported iDevice connectivity, so I went ahead and made a stand for her iTouch and added some pink plaid on the interior for some added fun.
Image
Image
Of course with all this pink plaid and paint on the car, pink LEDs would only be appropriate, so we got some of those to help out the interior. As of right now, there’s pink LEDs in the dome light, rear lights, under dash lights, cup holders (did the writeup on this site and an very very happy with it), in the shifter, and 2 in the cubby hole.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Next she wanted a digital DIC so she could see what sort of MPG’s she was getting. Well, after hearing about Morad’s Part Company and finding out that they are only 10 miles away from my apartment I decided to get into touch with them and see if they could get me a 97 GT DIC (97 GTP and 98+ DIC’s won’t work), but sure enough they had one so I got to do business with them for the first time and got to meet all the great guys there. I now go to them for just about everything. They got another visit from me shortly after this because the right rear caliper seized. A quick phone call and a drive over and boom, 2 used calipers, which of course were quickly painted pink like the old ones.
Image
Who needs a hybrid?

Then winter came and finally rusted out a hole, 3 actually, in the stock resonator, so my friend Jeremy and I did some exhaust modding of our own. The res was replaced with a 32” glasspack (not the darn louvered one either) and just took the cat out all together and sold it as scrap so the entire exhaust job actually made us 50 bucks. Can’t beat that. We still need to get a real DP but for now the setup is working and sounding great. Zero drone, very deep note, and obviously not too loud since the stock mufflers are still in place.
Image
Image
Shortly afterward, Jeremy bought HPTuner Suite, so after some tinkering and downloading of some already good L36 files, we got a good tune onto the PCM. The tune helped out a lot and I’m very happy with it. It’s a little on the rich side since we didn’t have a wideband to perfectly nail the tune and wanted to error on the side of caution, but the car is still getting 34 MPG on the highway and will keep up pretty well with other cars. Gotta love the skip shift haha.

Up next was getting rid of the crappy OEM headlights. The passenger side lense was completely yellowed on the inside and outside and was just too much of a mess to bother salvaging. So again, my girlfriend said “Hey let’s get lights like Kyles” so we did. And somehow while wiring them up I made the halos sequentially blink when the turn signal is on (still on with the parking lights) which is pretty cool since it matches the tails and the side/corner lights. We also bought some 5000K DDM slim ballast HID’s to go in them.
Image
Image
One day while trolling GPONA I saw Drunkie’s thread on his retrofit and loved his demon eyes and asked Jaclyn if she would like pink demon eyes in her lights. Again she said yes, so I took a stab at it. And this is how it turned out…
Image
Then the rear suspension needed some attention. The sag had started and got bad very very quickly. One day I was in my driveway and noticed a 6” piece of a coil. I checked her springs and sure enough, part of the top of the passenger rear spring broke clean off. So, Morads got another visit from me. I picked up some low mileage spring/strut/mount complete setup and bolted them in. Problem solved.

This summer the car got a lot of TLC. It got all new tires and I went ahead and repainted the wheels since brake dust and curb rash made the stock faded paint look even worse. Nothing some sandpaper and a rattle can can’t fix.

Then the “big” fix. The LIM gasket had been taking a crap since she got the car and at this point it had 150,000 miles on it so it was time to replace that bad boy. We bought the aluminum ones, got new a UIM gasket, elbows, and some “real” coolant. No more dexcool anymore. The whole project took me a week (yeah I take my good ol’ time”, a day to disassemble, 5 days to clean all the parts (I’m very anal about cleaning stuff. I won’t put a part back on a car if it’s dirty) and paint the valve covers, fuel rails, hood liner, UIM, TB and a couple other odds and ends, and 1 day to reassemble. In the process I went ahead and deleted the EGR, polished the LIM runners, cleaned up and rerouted some wiring, and just did some basic engine bay cleaning.
Image
Image
Yuck

Image
There’s your problem…
Image
After this the car got retuned and is running like a champ. Then during Kyle's demod I asked if I could snatch up his Hella driving lights since they were a billion times better than the stock fog lights. So I took off the stockers and we traded (an unfair trade of course. I owe him a lot for all he’s done for me with this car and my own cars). Of course, the regular halos in them weren’t going to cut it so I played around with some pink LEDs and wire them into the same switch as the demon eyes. So now flip a switch and the lower halos and the DE will come on. Perfect for car shows.
Image
This picture makes them look more purple than they actually are. I’ll have to get a better one soon.

And that’s how the car sits right now. At the moment is needs a new lower motor mount (darn hydraulic POS), a real downpipe, an ignition switch/harness, newer style windshield washer bottle that goes into fender (bought one from Morads just need to install it), and STB’s (have one for the front, of course it’s painted pink already, but I need to cut out some brackets so I can install it).

Down the road the plan is to topswap it or just engine swap it with an L67 if the trans (4T60) dies so then we could just swap in a 4T65 at the same time (why do things twice if you don’t have to right?). Of course time can only tell how things play out. If it stays N/A it will at least be getting some rockers, HV3, headers, etc. As well as a SLP Gen 1 spoiler and some new wheels of course.

Jaclyn and I are very happy with how the car has turned out so far and can’t wait to see what the future has in store for it, as long as the cancer doesn’t consume it first, but we are trying our best to not let that happen. It’s plenty quick for her right now and has enough done to it that it’s not exactly stock, but nothing crazy. It’s unique and has personality and that’s all that matters.
I’ll update this thread as things change or if I get better pictures. Hope you all enjoyed.

Pull in to walmart parking lot

Me - "That thing sounds pretty beast...you got a 3.8 in there?"

(You walk over)

Jaclyn - "Matt, Kyle was hitting on my car again!"

Love where the car is going. I hope to be able to lend a hand in some modding on it pretty soon.

Thanks guys. It's still a work in progress but for the little time and even less money that's gone into it I think it's turning out pretty well so far. Once I get the dubs on the road and have some extra money I'm hoping to start more modding with this car.

Haha, probably have. I go to Case and my GF goes to John Carroll so it's always around that area. I'll have to keep an eye out for you. If you see it sometime get my attention or something.

Last night when you guys were behind us heading to my house, Ashley asked if you had HID fogs too. I had to tell her they were my old fogs and that's why they were bright, haha.

Those things kick total ass. It lights up everything!!!!!!

Thanks. I'm not a fan of very flamboyant modding or anything like that. Just subtle stuff.

haha, I took out the back reflector dome, then removed the cut off plate, and then just glued 2 LEDs (per side) in the bottom of the projector housing and ran the wire through the grommet that the halo wires went through. Then just put the cut off plate back on and put everything back together. I can post pics on how I did it.

I just have the demon eyes and pink lower halos wired to a cig lighter powered switch in the little dash shelf (where the HUD buttons would be) so they aren't on when the car is on or when the headlights/parking lights are on just to make sure that there is no "breaking of the law." But it works great for cruise ins. Just flip the switch and let the questioning begin haha.

I also got a PM about how I did the iPod dock so I'll be making a DIY for that.

Well the car had a little hiccup this past week. One our way up to visit my dad in Michigan, the water pump decided to leak. But we were already halfway to his house so we kept on going. Thankfully I always keep a bottle of coolant in the car at all times so we just stopped every 100 miles or so and topped up the radiator and got the car to his house and back home a couple days later. After returning home I decided that the engine didn't want to go "home" to Flint where it was made because on the way up and way back it lost the most coolant on the trip when we were driving past the exits for Flint haha. So, last night Kyle came over and we changed it out and also changed the washer fluid bottle to the newer style.
