Since i got the car in may, i have driven the car about 1300 miles. Oil is at 66% my brother, who is a Honda mechanic, said the oil should be changed every 3 months or 3000 miles. Since i have had the car for a while, what do i do and what type of oil should i use and how much of it do i buy?

10W30 and if the previous owner used synthetic use that, if not I just use Castrol Syntec which is part synthetic and good for high mileage cars. Don't waste your money on expensive oil filters either. Just buy the AC Delco replacement blue filter from Advance Auto.

Change the oil every 3 months if you dont drive 3000 miles first.

I use royal purple 10w30 along with a kn oil filter, 1" longer than stock.

I use Pennzoil High Mileage but I'm going to switch to synthetic on my next oil change. Make sure you have an oil pan and funnel too! And of course the oil filter. I change my oil between 50% and 40% oil life. Despite the miles (usually at or below 3000) and I always reach that before 3 months.

It's good to see someone actually WANTING to change their oil at 3k miles or 3 months. All too many people place their faith in the oil life monitor, and frankly it's garbage. I change my oil every 3k miles and it's generally black when I'm done.

That said, I use 4.5 quarts of Quaker State dino oil. I do run 5W30 instead of 10W, but then I drive it in the cold, too. Also just use a standard size filter, AC Delco.

if you decide to use sythetic oil, make sure to get a filter that has synthetic filtering properties like mobil 1, k&n or purolator PURE ONE... and yes.. it does matter, we have the research behind it at work..

Well I was just talking about if he uses regular motor oil. Still I heard that K&N oil filters are rip offs.

they are a rip off.. just get a mobil 1 for $6 less than a k&n.. pure ones work well too and they're even cheaper yet.. i usually go with mobil 1 filters though..

Syntec is a full synthetic, and for the record, it really does NOT hurt a car to switch back to conventional contrary to what almost anyone in this neighborhood seems to think (damn cheeseheads).

Hey now, quit cutting on the cheese! Er, doesn't really sound right, does it.

Keep the info flowing, I'm about 200 miles out from my first oil change since I got the car, and I haven't made up my mind as to what I'm going to run. Car is at 66k miles now.

Do you know if it's conventional or synthetic in there now? If it's not synthetic, don't start it now. You'll lose all the deposits on your gaskets, then you'll replace every damned one lol. If it is synthetic, do whatever the hell you want.

People confuse me....is it safe to change from conventional to synthetic or not? Should you go with a buffer period of synthetic blend? Just go straight to synthetic? Seriously!?

No, I don't know, but I'm taking it back to the dealer I bought the car from, and the OC sticker in the window is theirs, so I should be able to find out. I doubt it is synthetic from the GM dealer though.

EXACTLY!!!

Going from regular to synthetic wont hurt anything. I have done it on every car i have ever owned and never had a problem.

As far as when to change it, I go when the DIC says 30-40%
The oil is never in rough shape.
