OK guys, here's the first of a few issues I'm have with my wife's 2000 Grand Prix we picked up for her last week. I'm new to the whole "Computers and Electronics" in cars thing, so go easy on me if I sound lost. :???:

When I turn on the A/C and set the knob to MAX, or Bi-Level, or even Vent, I don't get much air flow out of the upper Instrument Panel Vent openings, or the Center three openings above the Radio. The Blower works as it should on all speeds 1 thru 5. I can hear the blower really putting out some air to somewhere when I have it set to MAX. Temperature will change from Cold to Hot as it should when I adjust that knob. I feel a good flow of air blowing from the small vents that are right behind the console. Not strong, but much more than what I feel at the dash. Not knowing much about the common problems with this Generation of Grand Prix, I have to ask is this something common to this car model? I'm wondering if the possible cause is the Climate Control Unit itself. Would that be correct?

Just in case anyone is wondering, Yes I have checked all the fuses.

is the air only comming out of the foot area and the defrost vents? sounds like it

if so the vacuum line for the vent controls is eather broken or disconnected. even if it's the digital automatic system it still has vacuum controled vents

There is a very slight flow of air that I barely feel at the center vents and drivers side vent. I feel air at the passenger vent more than the other two locations. But not by much. It does get cold when I have it on A/C, so I think the system is charged and hasn't lost any Refrigerant. This car doesn't have the Automatic Climate Control. It's the Manual version. I'll take a look under the dash and see if I can find anything broke or hanging loose.

The vacuum line also runs into the engine bay. The one on my girlfriend 97 broke down by the battery.
Here's some pics

Wow!, Great information and Pic's. Thanks alot. It's little things like that vacuum line hidden behind the battery that I need to learn about. It sure would be nice if it's just a vacuum line issue. I was finding information that was leading me to believe it was probably the Control Unit. I'll be checking that line first thing! Thanks again.

Yeah, check the cheap stuff first. If it is something like he HVAC unit that needs replaced or if later on down the road you need anything else, check out Morad Parts Company. They will be able to hook you up with just about anything for a good price.

Well I got the system to finally operate as it's suppose to today! Turns out there was a pinch in a Purple colored vacuum line. I guess that feeds the IP actuator?. I also had corrosion on some terminals that plug into the blower motor resistor, and needed to clean that up. The blower was intermittent on the HI/MAX setting. Everything seems to be working as it should.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions and advice.

Now to the next problem.......

Good stuff. Cheap fixes are always the best.
Hopefully the next problem is also cheap and easy.
