Well today is the 20th and lane's car show is on the 28th and this is my quick documentery on what it is gonna tale to make the show. Lots of work om the car as well as my normal 12 hour shifts at work in there too.

To start we will go from the current condition of the car. As of this morning the car was still runable ( not driveable as it had a wicked miss and ran like crap , that started after doin some whoopin on a G8 GT on the highway. I took the car to the track after that and still ran a 13.5)

Well after beating up a couple of plugs in #3 cylinder a couple times I figured it was hurt terminal so I started gathering thing for a wicked rebuild. I have decided sends then that I am not gonna go as big as I was but I still want to get the car to the show ( esp after I got the hood, and to miss one of the biggest shows just seems silly) so here we are putting it together.

Here is the list of crap that needs to be done.

1. Pull the hurt L67 out of the car

2. Put the top swap L32 together that will power the car. ( the basic topswap that was in the car when I got it. Just with ported parts and ic)

3. Put the topswap motor back in the car

4. Repaint the front wheels ( they got a bunch of crap on them that wont come off and they look like hell)

5. Get the cowl hood on and the latches and hinges lined up correct.

6. Get new grills installed

7. Tint windows if time and money allow. ( not likely befor the show)

The car will not be 100% as I think I am gonna put the ported intake on and put the blower of the hurt motor for now and put the ic and ported blower and modded rails and 42.5's later.

So far I started this morning and got the L67 out and tore down to see what the damage really was.

Here are some pics ( several of which will be seen again in a header install writeup that I am gonna try to do during all this )

Here is how we started the day

Image

Image

Started by getting the wire harness un hooked ( and found I need to resplice an injector plug or two)

Then out with the headers

Front header

Image

Clamp on the front of the crossover. And the one on the rear of the crossover.

Image

Image

This rear clamp can be a pain by the trans dipstick.

Image

Image

I find it best to pull the front header off at this point with the dogbones off the motor should rock a little and give some room I let the header down and pull it up out the front

Image

Image

Xs power ( same as speed daddys and others, all sop knockoffs)

Image

Next I find it easier to twist the crossover to get it out

Image

Image

Guess I had a little leak

Image

Here is how the header looked after being run for a 2 or 3 summers

Image

Image

What they looked like new

Image

Got the headers out ( left the rear as I didn't need to take it out and didn't feel like lowering the rear of the cradle. Decided to take a break and get some refreshments and found some stuff on sale, and being that I have a fridge in the barn I figured I could plug it in when I got home so I.stocked up

Image

Got back and finished the last few things, bellhousing bolts, converter, coolant, ps pump, and ac pump. Got the motor out and got the top end off and finally got to see the damage

Image

Afterwards I was playin a little and took a teaser pic of the grills

Image

Will post up tomorrows progress, well tomorrow! Should get the motor put together and cleaned up/ quick coat of paint. Possibly set in?? Will see

the 01 is an engine whore lol

it is what 3rd? engine swap

let see. 2005 it had a GM replacement L36 installed
2007/2008 after 35k i pulled that engine out and topswapped it and put it back in
then you pulled the top swapped engine for the l67
now the L67 is being pulled for the 40k L36 topswapped engine

lol

Gonna go get started for the day here in a bit. Depending on what type of breaks there are I will do like yesterday and send batches of pic to Photobucket that way it don't take as long after to upload the last handfull.

I am doing this whole thing off my phone btw. Pics and all. I love my droid x. And with an otter box defender it makes it durable enough to come play with me. And good thing. At 8mp camera it is higher than my acctual digi at 7.2

If that is supposed to be why are they coming out. It is because the motor is being changed.

Ok here we go again.

Didn't Get as much done as I would've liked to But we did make pretty good progress . Had many distractions throughout the day But some of them are going to prove to be very worthwhile.

First thing was first and I got the other motor finished tearing down And found a few surprises when I get in there .

I posted a picture of number 3 yesterday which was the worst 1 And here are the pictures of all the damage

#2

Image

#3

Image

#4

Image

After finding of the damage I was taking a look at the headers when a distraction number 1 occurred. And it was a worthwhile distraction I believe.

They are oficially mine now

Image

Image

Image

After this distraction came the second 1 which was to sell some s 10 wheels to make a little extra cash to help pay for the 18's. Once all said and done we started to clean and assemble the motor

That's right studs bitches

Image

Image

Image

Image

Another distraction came about as we were cleaning the rocker arms push rods and stuff dad got a wrecker call soo we took care of that. No more then we returned from that 1 and received another 1 the next 1 was much more fun it was a astro van on it's roof. We got back finished cleaning the rocker arms installed the push rods and rocker arms and stuff and then put the intake on

Image

Image

Image

Unfortunately we did not make it much past that point but at least we got most of the motor assembled.

The next step will be to get the blower and stuff stuck on the motor, for now I am going to use the blower I had on the other motor . This will give me a very close set up to how it was before, and I should have no problem running it for now and being I have the extra gaskets to do so and still have both gaskets I will need for the ported blower and intercooler then I will go ahead and do this for now so I can get it running for the show, I will install the other stuff with the modded fuel rails and such later ( stuff like intercooler and 42 and a half pound injectors ect. )

The rear header looks just as good as the front and crossover

Image

Image

All in all the place is a disaster as I have not had a chance to clean just been thrashing at getting the work done

Image

Tomorrow I am hoping that I can get a few things cleaned up and possibly put a little paint on the block and such and maybe even start to set the motor back in and start to hook things back up.

Trying to get some tires for the 18's from a local guy so possibly I can pimp those at the show also if not I will be repainting the two 17's for the front.

So far I think I am looking pretty good as long as things go well tomorrow I should be able to button up the little things next week like get some wiring and such hooked up and coolant . Then I can start playing with the hood and worry about the wheels .

Sorry there was no more progress today it kinda makes for a lousy post but the assembly of the engine as well as the other distractions took some time.

Will post updates tomorrow

This thing should be rocking some ass by the time the show comes having engine running , hood installed, and possibly 18's thats not bad for a few days work. There is no chance for the windows by then now being that that money went to the wheels but soon enough when I get some extra cash I will get those done as well.

That engine crane looks familiar... Harbor freight crane? Got one too-

Just finished pulling a 5.9 out of a dodge 1500. Owner had a bad tranny that didn't want to shift right. It eventually red lined and screwed up the engine- blow up a piston!

Looks good so far, I'd replace the crank sensor while the engine is out, but that's just me.. ;-)

The crank sensor is actually off the L 36 out of the other car because I swiped the one that was on this motor originally as well as all the spares I had messing with the l67 that just came out. And I know this one was working. Besides I can change one in about 20-30 min ( 15 if we are in a hurry.) So knowing that it worked and being able to change it, it don't worry me too much

Ok so tofays progress was a bit less and went alot slower than expected/intended. But it was things that needed to be done and just took way longer than I wanted. And the lack of valve cover gaskets kept me from bolting them down and putting the blower and crap on. But once I get the gaskets that.stuff will go on quick and the motor will be ready to go back in. Had to get the car and engine cleaned up as the front seal was leaking a bit and got everything all nasty. So I went into town and got some decreased and some other stuff to get the job done. Got the car cleaned up and after lunch got the motor cleaned up ( and had to wait for it to dry) then got a little paint on it. Got some necessary items out of the way so that I could get the car moved to clean it. Everything will be ready to put together now that everything is ready. Those stupid.gaskets are the only thing holding me up for now. And those will be picked up before tues night so I can start getting it put back together.

Here are the few pics I have from todays meager progress. There will be much progress on tues night and wend. Will update then, as I have to work mon and tues (12 hrs) and probly wont do much after work as there is stuff like laundry and such.

I think this pair of boots are about done too

Image

Will post up updates when they happen ( or shortly after)

And yes harbor freight has supplied most of the tools used

ever figure out why the A/C does not work in that car?

noticed the A/C line was attached tot he compressor and the compressor was still in the car. ad far as i remember the system is empty it can hold a vacuume but as soon as you charge the system it leaks out

i also wish i lived closer to you so you could help with this stupid down pipe lol

i think i narrowed the A/C down to the evaporator.. i just did not want to remove the dash i was waiting for th heater core to fail then i was goign to swap both

becuase i put in a new condensor, acumulator, compressor, and orifice tube only thing i did not replace was the evap

i did make some progress on the exhuast though. it helped the res killed it's self for me though lol
