My K&N intake is pretty noisy inside the cabin of the car. Anyone done anything to make is so that the inside car noise is lessened? Short of taking it off though.

That's called induction noise and most of us think it sounds cool. Just be glad you don't have a supercharger, it really screams then!

Mines loud too, I think it sounds cool! At stop lights I can hear a little whine to it also.

you guys are missing the point.....

What have you done to keep the noise down? I love that intake and would hate to have to take it out because its too loud.

Suggestions?

If you don't want that intake that loud, K&N offers filter protectors that may deaden the noise a little as a by-product. Check on their website.

Some of the fastest modern cars out there, (vette, GTO, 350Z, any Porsche, etc) don't make a sound when you're standing next to them and when you get on them.

PLUSSSSSSSSSSS

It's not the outside noise that bothers me, when I put it in park and step on the gas standing outside the car I can't hear the intake all that much so it isn't a big deal. Its the noise it makes coming throught the floorboards and the firewall ( I guess because it's echoing inside the engine compartment.

So when you tell me I'm not that much into cars what information about me did you use to glean this information? That I don't like my cars noisy? A honda with "fart cannons" on it is loud, but does that necessarily make it fast? MODS89 think next time before you decide that you know more about me than you do.

Well come on, who dont like to be able to hear their car.

I was just going on how you like all the car audio. I just figured that you would rather have your music loud then go fast.

Either the filter protector OR some Dyna-Mat. Remeber, this also isn't a Porsche by a long shot. Personally, I've just grown accustomed to mine. My car has some sound to it inside the cabin, but I like to hear it. Not like straight pipes or a fart cannon, just enough to please my ears. That's me though, and everyone's different.

Is there a box surrounding your intake? If not, build one or buy one. I get a deep noise when I get on my car and I can hear it inside. It doesnt bother me because its only loud when I get on it. I dont have a box around mine either, its tucked right by the fender.

K&N FIPKs usually do have the box. Dyna Mat the outside of the box if possible.

Hmm, good ideas Z and LG13. My CAI does have a barrier around it, but it isn't closed on top. I was looking at it today and wondering if I could close the top with something. That shouldn't affect the performance of the intake, should it? My filter is pretty close to the fender well naturally too. I'll take pics and post them tomorrow morning then you guys might be able get a better Idea of what I'm looking at. If I can't do anything with it then I'll probably live with it.

I listen to music at normal levels. I have a lot of options to listen to so it is nice that way. I only crank occasionally so that's one problem If I listened to it really loud all the time then interior noise would not be a problem. All my stereo equipment is put together for really good quality sound not to deafen me. I'm not a young guy any more and don't want to go deaf. Spent my childhood repeating every word I said to my granny 3 times so I have no wish to go deaf.

Plus, I don't know about most of you guys, but I live in a big city, not NY or Chicago, but big enough. I need to be alert. It's one thing to live in the country and crank your music on a lonesome county road, but in a busy city I need to hear what's going on around me. I don't trust other drivers mostly.

Scott just put a Quiet Flow muffler on your intake. J/K I think the fliter protector that Mike mentioned should quiet it down some. Most of the noise is coming thru the firewall, but it would be pretty difficult to DynoMat it with the motor in the way.

get a sheet of plexi and cover the top

than get teh 4" gutter hose and then make another plexi w/ a 4" hole in it and have the hose go into the fender bu the center grill and you have a ram air and should hopefully be quoeter

Or you could just fix the problem and upgrade your TB to a northstar.
