What I was getting at with the interior styling was it seemed too generic (like most GM vehicles of that period). Other than the red lighting and the fact that the radio looks like it's out of the early 90s you couldn't tell it was a GP by looking inside. My 01 Monte has it's own flavor even compared to the Impalas, let alone any other Chevys from the time period. The interior of my Monte is just as nice as that of an 04+ GP I've been in, except it doesn't have a digital temperature control.

interior wise i perfered my 2000 Grand Am GT over the 97-03 GP. the grand am actualy resemsbled more of the trans am interior witht he round dash vent balls and the guage pods

only thing the GP has going for it was HUD and the DIC.

My very first car I bought shortly after boot camp back in 01 and burried in Guam. I actually traded it for a 92 camaro 25th aniversarry that I siezed the motor on.

My current DD, 2007 GT. I love it, have been in plenty of earlier gens, and even earlier years of the 04+ and the 07 seems to have little accents that make a big difference at least for the GT trim level.

Yup a 68, the nose is the same though other than the wrap around signal lights on the 68. But yeah no vent windows is the easiest way to tell between the 67&68.
It is a nice lookin Bird! I have a carousel red 69 myself but the GP is quicker, mines been in the family since 74 and been restored to original and will never be beat on.

My first car was an '81 Brougham with a 265 Cu In Pontiac V-8. Second was an '81 Brougham with a 350 Olds diesel that now has a '67 400 Pontiac with '66 Tri-Power feeding it, sitting in front of a TH400 transmission. It resides in a climate controlled shop to this day with my name still on the title.

the 265 was the small chevy, the small pontiac was a 301, and the small olds was a 280

i still greatly miss that car. do want to get another one. heck i would sell every car i own to get that one back but it's probably being used to make priuses now

You're possibly thinking of the 267. It was a Chevy motor. The 265 v-8 I mentioned was a pontiac motor, though, in my first '81 GP. No idea on the Olds you mentioned, but the Olds in my second GP was a 350 diesel with factory dual exhaust.

Yeah, those are nice looking cars - glad I kept mine. ;-)

pontiac never had an engine smaller then 301ci. and yes i was thinking of the 267ci back then GM had a few engines areound 4.3L-5.0L v8s for fuel conomy

my '82 was a diesle with the factory 3" single catless exhuast with transvers dual outlet muffler like on the F-body with the F41 perfomance suspention front rear big sway bars, lower springs, heavy duty shocks, and re-inforced frame, aluminum rear drums like those found on GNs, and larger front discs. it also had the larger 10bolt rear instead of the 7.5" all factory

it was a mexican export car the US cars could not get all that fun stuff

-- Fri Nov 04, 2011 3:32 pm --

never mind pontiac only used it for 2 years 1980 and 1981 becuase it was not a vary reliable engine. interesting

I'm going to assume we are talking v8's only here as the Pontiac 4 cyl(195 c.i.) and the OHC 6 were both smaller than 301 c.i.
As far as Pontiac v8's go there was a 287 c.i. "strato streak" in 1955 and the 265 c.i. v8 that was offered in 1980-81 which was based on the 301 c.i. engine but had a smaller bore.

Pat it looks like you got some junk in the trunk of the show car. That or you have some really saggy rear springs.

Even with +200,000 miles on the ticker, my old '93 with the 3.1 was no slouch. Still being used by its new owner as a daily driver, too.
