Anybody have a write up or a good site where I can find out how to make my own CAI? Ive got a 4" inside dia cone filter. Right now I'm using the stock tube that went to the stock airbox. I want to take the air box off and have the tubing go down by the fender, just not a FWI. I'm gonna use PVC if that helps out with the build.

Nothin at all, I just wanna be able to change/clean the filter easily when I have to. So, I opted to the simple intake that goes to atleast the top of the fender well.

Please don't use a FWI in NY...............And for anyone that reads this you shouldn't be using a FWI if you get a LOT of rain/snow....Plus the cone will get much much dirtier down there

I'm pretty sure you just pull it off at the throttle body.

I know how to get that off, I dont know how to get the air box off of the car so I can run my piping down by the fender.

2door98gt........You're not getting any gains from that over stock...Your resting the cone right near the exhaust manifolds.. It's sucking in all the HOT air off the engine. And that 90* bend is a big NO-NO.......You want to keep it fairly straight, as fluid (gas) velocity is different around each part of a bend and takes more effort from the engine to suck the air in

Both those pics are called HAI (Hot air intakes)........While they may open up and flow better then stock, you're definitely sucking in hotter air and all they pretty much do is sound better...Either get a box around it, or make a FWI

Cold air = More HP

Thats why im askin how to build a CAI cause mine right now basically is just a filter on the end of the stock hose. I'm going to build one, hence the thread; and make it go down to the fender where the hot air will be away from it. And, do I have to build a box for it, even though it will be down by the fender and away from the manifold?

Removing the box is super simple. Unclip the top half, move the PCM out of it, and just pull up on the bottom half. It pops right out. Since you are putting it in the fender, you dont really need to build a heat sheild. Basically, do the write up from azclubgp, just dont use the 90* bend that puts the filter way down into the fenderwell.

Steve you have no patience. What you need to do is buy a 99+ coolant bottle and then build some sort of box after you have that in. And then route the fenderwell feed tube in to that. Thats what I want to do at some point. Im sick of 150*+ IAT's

I got the stock air box out today, had 3 bolts at the bottom..So tomorrow or Saturday im gonna build it. Ill go to the junk yard and get a 99+ coolant bottle so it fits, I have it in right now pretty good against the bottle and it hasnt moved. I dont want to do fenderwell cause I think it would be a PITA to clean the filter when need be. If I need to, I will buy a PCM tray. And if its far away enough from the manifold, I dont think I would need to build a box around the filter since there wont be any heat coming in the filter from the mani.

The whole engine bay gets hot, doesnt matter where you are. Build a box or at least a wall separating an area for the filter from the rest of the engine bay. Feed a tube from the fender well, even put a scoop under the car if you want to ram the air in. You want that air as cold as possible.

And pick me up a coolant bottle if you can find more than one!

Ok, i have it all ready to go in, now I need to drill a hole for the sensor. Where should I drill it? And how do I get it to stay in there when I put it in? Its not the same as the one above but its pretty close, I got all the material that it said, but I guess something wasnt the same. But, its ready to work I just gotta drill the hole for the sensor.
