I need to replace my starter. It's too expensive to let a shop do it and besides, I hear its a pretty easy job. I never replaced one before so I was wondering how to go about doing it? I saw it and I know its heavy. Maybe I might replace the solenoid too, no?

I replaced one on my '98 GT last year, to be honest it was probably the lightest GM starter I've ever changed. I had to remove the lower air deflector for access. The replacement starter should already have a new solenoid on it.

In the GM Service Manual up top, search for Document ID: 425139 Starter Replacement (3800 L36 and L67)
