Hey all. Okay this noise has been there for probably 2 years but I've finally had it! Also, I'm selling the car and someone is going to hear this and wonder what the hell is wrong, and I can't blame them even my Mechanic isn't sure and I sure don't know!

I use to think it was CV axles but now I don't anymore. (its also not that kind of "click")

I use to think it could be caliper pins needing lube too, but I don't think its this either?

Here's the skinny:

Can make the noise going anywhere from 10km/hr to 60km/hr (could be higher can't remember)

Will do it on a straight road, no bumps or corners.

Usually notice taking off from a stop light, and then again after tranny changes gears (about half way through a gear and under load more or less).

Car has to be moving, can't hear it revving in Neutral or Park.

Noise is fairly rapid, let's say two or three "pops" per second? (I think "pop" is the best description, its not a click or growl, could sort of be considered a quiet rumble but there is a distinct time separation between the "pops" which is why I point to it. Could also be called a tapping, kind of like popcorn popping)

Noise happens for around 3 or 4 seconds at a time, first in first, then second, I think in third (over 60) it might not be happening not sure.

Noise is not really loud or really quiet, with radio on you can hear it, cranked could drown it out.

There are NO other symptoms, drivability is basically perfect otherwise.

Noise is somewhat intermittent, doesn't always happen under the same conditions but usually does. (has slowly gotten worse and more frequent I think too)

ONLY HAPPENS WHEN ACCELERATING!!! Let off, it goes away immediately.

========

That last clue should be a big one. If it was the Strut Mounts it would likely be worse over bumps and happen all the time not just when accel.

CV Joints usually happen mostly when turning, also, my boots are perfect. (though that isn't fully indicative could still be bad with good boots)

I know my front Control Arm bushings are due to change but could this noise at even low speeds be coming from there?

Any ideas folks? I really want to shut this noise up!

TIA

I would still consider your CV even though it's not clicking

Good idea, I'll maybe try a video tomorrow to see if the camera will be sensitive enough to catch the noise on tape.

BTW - Nice GT, did you throw a S/C on there? Looks like you might have with that hood...
