I have a friend, and an experienced tuner, tuning my Prix either Thursday or Friday.. now, I'm not sure what to tell him to do. He's using and HPTuner. Now, most of you know that my tranny is a POS with shifting, so I'm going to have him change that.. but what else should I go for? After this week, I am also going to start working up to a 3.4 pulley. He will do free touch ups for when I mod more.. but I want the best tune now for what I have and what I will have... advice?

thanks.

buy your own tuner and do it yourself.... best thing to have to rely on yourself and make changes as you see fit

That isn't in the cards right now. I am getting it tuned and I just wanna know what I should be telling him to do. I want to make the shifts firmer I think... and keep my speed up as I shift.

Leave the timing alone. You're probably knocking as it is. They might add SOME fuel to get the KR to go away, and there may be spots that could use a little bit. Cruise timing can probably be way advanced, but on the dyno, you'll never get that done.

I am tuned now. I love it. It shifts a lot firmer & traction control is gone now when you push the button. We didn't mess with the timing cause I am having between 2 & 3 degrees of kr at the top. Which for how hot it is, almost 90, isn't too bad. We'll see how it goes & if I want anything changed he will change it.

Sounds like you are happy with the car now. A little tweaking makes a big difference.

Yes, I am happy with it... BUT, I temp gauge isn't working again. & now i'm hearing rumors of this guy tuning it & nothing coming of it. But you would think if he wants to make money people would be happy?? People in my town are but I guess across the state he tuned someone & it messed up his pcm or something.... We'll see........

I doubt that the tuning caused the temp gauge to stop working, it's probably just acting up again.

That's what happens when you do road tunes with no wideband. It can be done, but sometimes it's more risky than what it's worth. Glad to see your happy with it. So what all did he tune?
Sounds like all he did was the tranny tables and disabled the TCS???

As long as your happy with it is all that matters.

Temp guage is common. Have him clear the DTC's and it will pop back up.

I know you already got the tune, however there are many things that should be done with a tune that will take some time in order to make the tune custom to your car.

Your fuel trims need to be close to 0. This is done by scanning then modifing the MAF table then repeating the process. It takes several days because the 04+ PCMs take longer to settle into the changes than pre-gens. Pre-gens are usually ready after 20 minutes or so.

After your LTFT's are in the -5 to 0 range cruising and locking in at 0 at WOT then it's time to work on Enrichment base and Enrichment over time to get KR free using fueling.

Once that is done you work on timing to get the most out of your engine both performance wise and gas mileage wise.

Other basic things that can be done at any time are

SC boost roll on
Speed limiter
Cat temp limiter
torque management (be very careful with this)
shift points
cooling fans turn on time (this makes a 180 t-stat worth while)
cooling fans remain on after shutdown

There are tons of other tables, but it's been awhile since I've needed to tune so I can't remember them right now.

Basically, everytime you add a mod that affect fueling, you need to redo your MAF tables and PE enrichment followed by Timing tables.

BTW, there are several time tables and they are all tied together so you can't change just 1. Also, you can't just change them all by the same amount. It takes a bit of calculating to do it right.

Do it wrong, and you can end up with wierd results in places you wouldn't expect. I made a wrong change in 1 of my timing tables, at WOT, the tranny would not shift out of 2nd until I let off the accelerator. Fixed the table and it fixed the shift.

Thanks for all of your advice, Blackwood. I plan on having him make adjustments after I see how it runs at the track. So far though, I think it's doing pretty well, and doing what I wanted it to. We wanted to change the shift points but weren't sure where the "safe zone" was, I don't wanna blow shit up.
