So I usually just go to my towns weekly car show in the summer and fall. Only one a week, Sat night. So I went to this other show that my buddy wanted me to go and hang out there with him.

I actually got told by one of the people that runs the show, "Sir, you have to park this car in spectator parking, it doesn't belong here. Since it's fwd car and has the engine in the front it's considered a tuner car, please move"

I said, "did you just REALLY call a grand prix a tuner!?" Him embarrassed, "the village ordinance says tuners cannot be in any show at all no matter what"

I said, "well, every car should leave then cause every car here right now I guarantee you has something tuned on their cars. I'm not moving"

I stayed there, and he got embarrassed. Even the stang guys stuck up for me and told him, "seriously man...that's not a tuner, it's a grand prix, a fine american machine" :)

But seriously...grand prix's are NOT tuners.

errr umm technicly every thing that is fuel injection by definition is a tuner car

a tuner car is a modern car that has been tuned for perfomance. a tuner car is a broad catagory it is just simple minded people tend to think tuner and import are interchangeable there not.

a c4-c6 corvette is a a tuner car some 3rd gen and all 4th gen F-bodies are tuner cars and so on and so forth

that guy needs to do some learning before he enforces an auto show and stop using the word tuner in place of import

That's what I'm thinking. I haven't heard cars called a "tuner" since the first Fast and the Furious.

That does remind me of a weekly car show that relocated because they said they got "infested by rice burners" which was said by my 80 year old neighbor with 3 classic cars. :D

This sounds typical. I had a similar thing happen when I went to a car show a year ago.

In many people's eyes if it's not an American V8 car made before 1980 you can GTFO of every car show. That's the one thing I never liked about "Car shows/Cruise-in's." The old guys, who mind you took their cars to the local drive-in eatery to BS and hang out with other car owners back in the day, are now the ones saying that anyone with a "new" car can't bring it to have a good time and show off their ride. Hate to rain on their parade, but 20 years down the road, these cars will also be considered "classics" and therefore would be welcome at a "Classic Car Show."

I love going to car shows, but it's a sad sight to see the cars of our days be turned away by people who bring in cars from their days.
Cars are cars and should be respected as the owners hard work/deep pockets/work of art, regardless of what decade it came from, with all riced out hondas being the exception though. They can go elsewhere
/rant

I was at a show one time and the show coordinator told the owner of a mint 79 VW Rabbit that he wasn't welcome into a "Classic Car Show" because his VW wasn't an aircooled one. The kcuf?!?!? So bring a Beetle or leave?

Glad you stayed though and got the support of others. Gotta represent the GP's :thumbright:

so what do you guys think? You think I should go back to the show next friday and set him straight? Or just forget about it, and keep going to the one on Saturdays and forget about what that guy said? (the fridays show where I got hassled kind of sucks anyways)

If Grand Prix's are tuner cars then why the hell couldn't I run in the tuner class at the dragstrip a few years ago.

Honestly I would have busted out my cell camera and started to videoing him explaining what classifies a car as a tuner. Then argued with him till he was blue in the face. Then proceeded to post the video on YouTube with a description of where to find this guy at his next car show.

Then I would have rallied a bunch of FWD cars to take over his show just to be an ass. :)

I got refused entry at a bike show on my KR250 because I had disc brakes, yet they were letting brand new Harleys and Triumphs in. Now THAT pisses you off!

A lot of car shows & cruise ins around here are like that..they either have a cut off year, or say "Sorry no imports" on their flyers. Never heard of the "no tuner cars" rule before, lol! Props to you for standing your ground, but if that cruise-in sucks, I wouldn't waste my time or gas on it.

I won a trophy from a car show when I still had my GTP, Best in Class - Tuner.

If it isn't a Corvette, a Mustang or wasn't made before 1990, it's a "tuner."

Just to be a dick I would get several guys with stuff like gp, travel and such that are quick and flood them with "tuners" then spank on the local "muscle" guys just for fun afterword.

In a week or so it looks like I will be able to finish the little things, at that point I will be able to put some hurt down.
