The title kind of says it all, really. I'm looking to buy a 2000 or 2001 GTP. One was a Michigan car, but has been here in Fla for 5 years. I don't know about the other one. Any areas prone to rust for me to check? Any things that typically need, or will soon need, work? Obviously the fluids, how it drives and a carfax are things to check. Anything else?
Thanks, Gas.

also my car has a super clean carfax and it was hit 5 times by the previous owner

Strut towers, arround gas cap, bottom of fenders, and rockers (under the ground effects under the door)... Here in Ontario, the rust monster takes hold worst in these places...

Holy fast replies, Batman!!!! Thanks, guys. I'm off tomorrow, so I'm hoping to buy one of 2 I've been looking at. One is black and the other is red/burgundy. I'll be here tomorrow night, hopefully with good news. Any other ideas? Also, have you seen my other thread in the supercharged engines section?

link?

also ask when the s/c oil was changed if you want a laugh

gm says it doesn't have to be done but sells the oil for it.

i'm trying to remember what i looked for when i bought the new one. it was just rust on the under carriage and if it ran. seriously. popped the hood checked the oil paid in cash. 10 mins

Would the rust around the strut towers be at the upper or lower mount?

Here's my other thread.

mater in the pass floor board,

LMFAO

i had a lack of floor board in my 2000 that is where that comes from

and rust ont he strut towers he means open the truck and move the carpet away fromt he towers and check for rust. the tops like to rust out and that can send the strut right though the trunk

It said check for Mater I thought he might of stowed away. Lol

But like the rest have said, rear towers check the tops and the sides. Of them an the rockers. Those would be the biggest places that are not visible.

That clears it up. I sure hope I don't find anything wrong today, but it would definitely beat finding it later. Thanks for all your help. I'll come back on later and let you know how it turns out.
