Ok, so this past monday night my blower fan suddenly stopped working (it worked fine when I parked the car on Monday morning). The car is an 03 SE with the manual dual zone climate control.
On Monday night, it didn't work on any speed. On Wednesday, on my way to take it in, the blower fan would work, but only on high and it blew very weakly. I've got a couple questions about it:
First, am I correct in the assessment that the leaking cowl / water drip tray TSB is specific to the 04+ GPs and therefore doesn't affect my 03?
Second, in hindsight, I realize that taking the car to Holz Chevy was a big mistake, but I don't have time to waste in getting it fixed properly. Of course, all they do is waste my time. They've replaced the resistor and told me that it works on all speeds now, but only after the tech banged on the fan itself. They also said that the fan is really rusty, but it doesn't look like there's water damage (like staining) around it, just that it's showing its age. How likely is this to be true?
Third question: If it needs a new fan, I'm going to have my dad do it (because I just don't have any time). I've done some searching on here, but all I can really find out is that its a pita to do. Does anyone have any helpful information or tips on it?
Last, can any of my fellow SE Wisconsinites recommend a place that I can take the car in the future? I've just had bad luck everywhere I go (even to the point where all the oil leaked out of my car once after a routine oil change)...

Thank you all so much.
Kyle

Here's the info on the water deflector: http://www.grandprixforums.net/water-fl ... -6961.html (One of the cheapest parts you'll buy from a GM dealer, lol!)
I installed one along with a cabin air filter. (Bosch Part# P3720)
This write up is for the blower motor resistor, with the blower motor removed for access: http://www.clubgp.com/cgi-asp/mods.asp?modid=150
A related topic: http://www.clubgp.com/cgi-asp/mods.asp?modid=111 Hope that helps!

Thanks that's all really helpful.
I got the car back and they said that after replacing the resistor, the fan worked initially, but then stopped working after the ignition was cycled. After he tapped on the fan, now it works, but setting it to 5 is equivalent to about what a 2 should be. So I guess I have no choice but to replace the fan tomorrow.

Before you replace that motor I would check the plug that goes to the motor. I've seen them loose and the wires make poor contact. Push the connector onto the fan a littler firmer and wiggle it around while the fan is on high. Maybe you will get lucky....

The motor could be dying but as Keebler said, check your wiring first. The fact that it's so intermittent makes me want to say you have an electrical problem. Maybe the connection to the motor itself is bad though, in which case you'd have to replace the motor anyhow.

Being that you have to tap on the motor to get it to go, theres probably rust built up in the motor itself causing it not to spin...replace the blower before you burn up the new resistor/relay
