Define good.

About the only way they are better is they look a little better, and with hid lows out put is a little better but they have hotspots, can have bounce and with the bulbs that come with them output is no better than decent stockers.

So some searching under projector, you should find some info.

I plan on making some Retrofit lights that will be less money and have much better output

So better? Not in my opinion. If you have the money and like the look it is up to you

They are universal, so they can be mounted anywhere. The lower air dam would be good spot if one where to put that type of light on

I looked through the pics and see what you mean. I will contact Andrew and see what he has to say about it.

Yepp that was my car a few years ago. Looks like they shaved my front bumper flipped the picture. This is the 3rd company Ive seen use this same picture of my car for the headlights and I didn't even buy them off them. lol And Ive never told any of them they could use it. Last one I emailed said they would give me 15% off if I let them use it.

This is the original pic

Anyway on topic the headlights suck. They bounced like crazy and never really fitted just right with out them being way out of adjustment.

I have gen 3 spyders without any problems, though I did mod them slightly to have zero bounce and put HID's in them so output is pretty decent. Either way, they were better than the stockers and better than the other "projectors" on the market (one's that use H4 bulbs).
Yes a retro is the best, but naturally not everyone wants to or has the know how/time/money to undertake a project such as that.

There are three styles of projectors made for a 97-03. The spyders which you posted are the best of the bunch. They do require some modifications to not get them to bounce and to align them just right. There are plenty of write ups for that. I would recommend using HIDs with them.

I did the mod to mine to get rid of the bounce and it really didn't help much. I could never get mine aimed right and look centered in the headlight area. I had 55 watt 8000k hids in mine and they worked ok, even if they were aimed basically right at the ground. That was the only way they looked centered. They were more for looks then anything. I now have aftermarket black headlights and the bounce bad too and with 55 watt 8000k hids light output is terrible, but to me they look much meaner. I've found that any aftermarket headlights for these cars suck unless you use the stock brackets and even then you may have a little bounce. The headlight mounting on these cars was a bad design.

I do agree with you on the bouncing and aiming of the lights. Mine bounced like crazy as well. But I did mod the lights to be able to align them up more.

As far as the black headlights on ebay. You are better off painting a set of stock lights black. The chrome relfector on the ebay black headlights is smaller than a set of DIY black headlights.

Mine bounced, I shoved folded up Pizza box and some foam all around them. They stopped bouncing, but it wasn't pretty.
