Why would you tear everything back down? Why don't you look at the pedistals you took out?

I was wondering if you had remembered to zero out each cylinder before tighting the rockers down.

Glad to hear you found the problem.

I didn't do that, Blackwood. I wonder what the thinking is behind it. It's caused me no problems, either.

Didn't you blow your engine?

j/k :D

Too little preload adjustment can cause valve train noise. On the other hand, too much preload can damage the hydralics of the lifters and can cause low manifold pressure. It can also keep the engine from firing. Which sounds like what happened. Just not because of an adjustment problem, instead, a different size pedestal.

Zero out the cam lobe for each cylinder, and you'll be fine.
