So I constantly roll across individuals asking "How can I make my Grand Prix GT quicker?" often with the caveat -- "please don't say Top Swap or Turbo--" I asked the same thing myself. And the answer from everyone? Top Swap. Many don't want a top swap. I've put a few bolt on's on, and I'll tell you, mod, by mod, what it did for me. I have an 04 GT2, but it should be pretty similar across the board.

Started off with an INTENSE fenderwell intake (FWI): Definatly made it louder at WOT, sounded pretty good, and a very slight difference in speed, though it may have been psychologically induced by the new sound.

Then I forked over the money for an HV3. This was by far the biggest night/day difference, I didn't really notice much of a drop in the lower end of the powerband, but it definatly pulled much better above 4k RPM's.

Then I got a set of headers, everyone in the N/A world is usually torn between Headers and a Power Log. Like you hear from everyone, go for the Headers. Speed Daddy's are cheap and easy to make good. Especially 04+'s because they dont really have a U-bend to get rid of, which is one of the bigger things that'll open you up on other models. So again. Headers. This you will notice a bit of a drop in the lower end, but when you're on the gas, how often are you under 2500 RPM's really? And if it bothers you that much, you can get steeper gearing. Pulls really well in the upper RPM's.

And finally to wrap it all up, I got an INTENSE PCM And that really tied it all together. Did I notice a HUGE gain out of it? No. But I did notice firmer shifts and a smoother pull. With the upper end of my powerband having most of my power, 4K+ RPM's its really nice. Especially since in stock form, the N/A's run out of steam in the upper RPM's.

Everyone has their preferences on brands and what have you, but this is what I have, and really, other than a good tune, you're going to be within the same ball park no matter what you get. After that you can opt for a Cam, Rockers, Heads, a Stroker kit, but that's all extremely expensive, that being said, the power starts getting addicting, and I think I'm going to go for that Top swap next.

Thats very nice of you to post, some of us with the GT2's can really use that information, youre exactly right. A lot of us dont have money to turbo out our GP's, so you get the question "How do I make it faster for a reasonable price?" Your input is right on the point. I would suggest the same things and am actually in the process of trying to get some money together for my new headers. Im sure many people can benefit from your post. Thanks

I got a bit fed up with my GT and the grand prix in general. Don't get me wrong, I love it! But... It was putting out enough. Even with a turbo on the GP, it wouldn't be has fast and reliable has the G8. This weigh heavily on the fact it's my daily driver. The aftermarket for the GP is mostly ZZP's monopoly IMHO.

Thats true as well, even with the mods, its never gonna be crazy fast so do you really wanna put the money into the car? For some no and others yes, my opinion is youll never have the fastest car no matter what, so do what you want and what you like and stop when you think its appropriate whether financially or dont think its worth it to upgrade anymore. My girl just got a TL, its stock and I think it would be a close race soooo

I'll post updates on how it affected my fuel mileage later, next fill up is going to do that, since I spent all of this tank gassing the living $#!+ out of the car. But it does make for a pretty aggressive little DD. Which is all some people want.

And the G8 is an out freaking standing car, I SOOO wish I could afford it. But my GP and Trans Am kill my money, wife would kill me if I got another car.

I would have to say that rockers are not crazy expensive and a good.choice for a couple reasons.

Usually pretty easy to find used, lowering cost

Not that difficult to install, gives novices a great place to "dig in" and perform a "real mod"

Can be reused if topswap later, or sold and recoupe most of the money invested in the first place.

Would make great use of those headers or hv3

Somethin' I might look into. But I don't have em so I couldn't give any real data for em. But I'll agree, those are generally not too expensive, especially if you have some mechanical know how.

Agree 110%

My really first major mod was installing the HV3- I know.. Not a big deal, but it got me started and gave me confidence. Now installing heads was a pita! Rockers not so much, but it was a challenge. Killed my lifters the first time... MAKE SURE TO USE SET THEM AT THE CORRECT TQ!!!

I'm staying away from engine mods in the G8 for now... Lol

i am all for N/A power but even after all that work a stock GTP is still quicker. only reason i went boost when i had the 01 GT HP/$ was greater with the S/C.

but if you want to go turbo later on all those mods can be used (except the intense PCM withc should be shot and burned before it damages your engine from running too much timing and too lean) even the HV3
