Picked up an 08 GP, and didn't inspect the rear of the engine bay too thoroughly until after I got home (meaning, I checked it out to ensure everything was there, but didn't check everywhere) ... what I saw on the firewall and even a little spatter on the coilpack area was a darker white odorless grease... consistency was close to what I'd normally associate as a white lithium grease... I couldn't find anything on the car itself or the engine that would be throwing around anything similar, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask if anyone had ever seen the problem before on their own cars?

It's entirely possible that I ran something over while driving, but it wasn't hot and it wasn't runny.

I'll take some photos tomorrow and see if it helps anyone tell me what it is.

See if the axel boot is ripped. Sometimes if they rip they will sling grease around.

I would thoroughly inspect the areas around it, and take it back to the dealer for warranty. Or, clean it off well, and take it for a short drive to see if anymore builds up.

My girlfriend and I have been hooked like crazy on that show... the most recent episode had us both amazed and stunned with the singing :o

I'll check the boot and surrounding area tomorrow... would that cause any problems or just make a mess? I haven't had any driving problems with the car so far, and have been kind of aggressive on it to ensure it'll hold up...

been ages since I've driven a FWD car though, was driving an 01 Camaro SS for about 3 years prior to this car, so I have new fun things to learn.

It will only cause a problem when all of the grease is gone and water starts getting in there. Things will start to rust and seize....

it sould be that the cv boot has ripped, but thats usually a greenish grease.

White lithium grease? Wipe it off and see if it comes back. I dont see how one would mistake axle grease for white lithium grease. Could just simply be something that got smudged on there when service was going over the car at the dealer before you bought it.
