Is there a way for me to get to the back 3 spark plugs in my 99 coupe without rotating the engine forward, or do i need to rotate it in order to get to them? if so how do i rotate the engine and can the transmission stay in park or do i need to put it in another gear?

You don't "need" to, but it makes it a lot easier especially if you don't have little kid hands. If you do want to do the moving the engine technique, you can simply remove the upper dogbone motor mounts, then get a ratcheting tie down and attach it to the hook or any bracket on the motor. Then just ratchet away until the engine is far enough forward for you to get your hand back there. When I do it, I usually park in front of something I can tie down to or just attach the strap to something on the backside of the motor and attach the other side of the strap to the front frame. Basically just whatever works for you. And yes, you can leave it in park.

If you don't want to pull the motor forward again, now is a perfect time to remove the big bracket on the backside of the motor. Removing that makes changing plugs even easier.

Don't let that dealer rob you any more than they already have.

As Matt said, removing the engine lift and egr brackets make life easier when changing the rear plugs.

yeah they got me really good on that one. I havent gone back since. they do good work but their labor rate i think is 120 bucks an hour. Waaayyy to much for me and I think they like to take an extra hour to do the work so they can maximize their profit.

Yeah the disconnecting the mounts and pulling it forward a bit always worked for me. I never had any trouble getting to them that way on any of the GM FWD V6s I've worked on. Only trouble I had was for some reason I couldn't get the first plug threaded correctly on a 3100 Monte Carlo. It was the driver's side on the back. Took me about 8 beers before I could finally get it threaded right LOL. Then the last two were so much easier for some reason.

I had a very difficult time getting to the rear plugs on my 96 lumina when i had it. It had the 3100 too and i could not get to those rear plugs to save my life. I even went so far as to take the alternator off and still couldnt get to those damn things. oh well, I ended up junking that car july 2010 and I dont miss it one bit. It kept overheating plus it had a TON of other problems that was way to costly for me at the time.

We disconnected the dogbone mounts and rocked it forward. I had zero problem getting to it. It was just getting the angle right to get that first plug threaded that was the pain in the ass for me.
