If you have the stock, plastic intake and are not thinking of going to a supercharger, then you should definatly get it replaced. The stock intake will fail 95% of the time. There is a coolant passage that runs through the plenum and it contacts an egr tube directly. This causes the plenum to melt and makes your engine suck in coolant. Dorman is the only company that makes a reliable replacement because of the smaller egr tube and reinforced passages. If you plant to keep your GT Naturally Aspired for a while then this is a good upgrade that is money well spent.

Yup, that's one solution to a ridulously common problem. I know some guys have swapped over L26 UIMs as well. They are aluminum.

I will have by wednesday night, this should do for now. This is the EGR intake tube, there is a metal tube (conducts heat very well) that has ZERO clearance and will melt the pastice wall. When it does, you notice that you have to refill the coolant a lot. When the plenum fills to the top, the coolant goes into the engine and it will start to overheat. The ONLY good thing about this is the engine gets powerwashed.

Well when you pull of the plenum, you will see the places I am talking about, so what i want you to do is take a screwdriver and poke at the inside of the two passages aroung the EGR tube, if the plenum is good, then nothing will happen, it will be hard to go through, but if the plenum is shot then it will be like butter. Dorman is the best replacement for this too.

No. An L26 intake is the best replacement for this. They are aluminum. If your car gets hot enough to melt metal. Tell me how your feet feel...

I dont have the part number. But someone will here soon!

Also they roll through the GPON classifieds every once and a while. More often than not.

Well that is nice, but if you have trouble finding that one, autozone has the Dorman for $134 as well, and these are usually in stock all of the time. Dorman also provides instructions, torque specs, and all gaskets and o rings needed. Link is:

Morad always has them too.

Plus plastic is always going to fail. Its just a matter of time. They like to warp at the flange too.

I have also read that an HV3 insert will have to be modified with either intake.

Yes. Some grinding will be involved to install the HV3 in the L26 Aluminum Manifold. VictorSmalls has more info on this.

Pics of my intake

File comment: Where the coolant comes into the manifold. The screwdriver was too long and is poking through slightly.

File comment: You can test yours by trying to poke a screwdriver through, mine was as easy as butter.

File comment: These are the coolant passages that melt and let coolant into the engine, Dorman reinforces these.

The HV3 does not fit in a Dorman intake.

Well I believe mine was stock, not sure what the last 2 or 3 owners did to it, but it didnt have that and the Dorman fit like a glove.

Is there anything else needed to swap to a L26 UIM? Will it bolt down with no modifications to the L36 LIM? Also will the L36 throttle body bolt up to the L26 UIM? I already know about the HV3. Considering on swapping my L36 to an L26.
