I´ve got a stock 97´ GT and my plan is to work on the engine this summer. the truth is i really don´t know where to start, my budget for the first mods will be around of 1000-1500 bucks... all i´ve got until now is a custom air intake and some exterior and interior mods, not on the engine. I would like to have some performance mods recommendations on where to start on my GT.

tns 4 the help

Exhaust
CAI
Rockers
HV3
PCM

As stated above plus a reprogrammed PCM would be good.

depends on how far u wanna go and what ur looking for.. I startted with a 3 inch ZZP downpipe, thrasher intake, HVTB from ZZP. Those 3 mods alone let me take a stock GT by 3 cars. the HVTP stage 1, is the best mod I think Ive done the the car..

Get a PCM, HV3 intake insert, And dont forget to do Preventive mods, If you do one thing make sure your complimenting it with another.. for example- If you get the HVTB your gonna want the 2 1/2 or 3 inch DP, If you just run the TB with the stock DP u prolly wont see the full gain...

Don't forget to upgrade the brakes! You don't want to go at high speeds without it.

So which size DP a 2.5 or a 3inch?

I noticed on ZZP they have a option for "weld in" or "bolt in" which would you guys go for?

2.5 unless you're planning on supercharging it.. bolt in is easier, but i opted for the weld in..

fwiw 2.5 is the stock size ...why someone would buy a 2.5 inch downpipe is beyond me.

get the 3 inch bolt it.

maybe inner diameter...either way 2.5 is a waste of time.

So the 3in bolt in with cat..Are they high flow cats? Or should I just not get one without the cat?

I would pick 3 for option 3, right? This will probably be my next buy after bearings..mine is falling apart.

stock is smaller.. stack is a lil smaller than 2.25.. 2.5 is way more than enough on a GT.. you have to remember he's not supercharged.. he'll actually lose some power going to a 3" cuz he wont have ENOUGH back pressure.. you want to be free flowing, but not TOO free flowing.. it's like when i open my exhaust cut out.. my car is slow as shit with it open..

do what you want, but yes they are high flow.. you'd gain so much more going with only a 2.5".. but do what you want..

And I also remember when ZZP made shit ass 2.5" DP's that had a smaller flange then stock (or something), and completely screwed up the exhaust flow....No idea what they did to fix that

I made the edit 3 posts above. If you have an issue with it, pm me.

Do you have an engineering degree? You shouldn't cast the first stone.

92gtpblue, if I were you I'd just ask ZZP. They won't BS you about what you need.

MOD EDIT: I disagree, unless you have a mechanical engineering degree, stop giving false info

well i didn't get to read what was originally said, but it must have been pretty vulgar.. lets keep the drama to clubgp... i'm not here to start anything and i dont think you should be either..

anyways i was basing it off my experiences.. like i said.. do what you want.. but i noticed gains from a 2.5" and it is still more than enough with all the mods i have so far so good luck..

EDIT: dmasjz45- your time is very impressive for your mods.. kudos to you i guess..

Ive had a 3" on my GT for over a year now and have lost no bottom end. It was a good mod along with the plog and ported rear.

Lol, it wasn't too vulgar at all......Just pretty much said keep quiet :D 8) .......I do agree on keeping the drama to CGP though

Anyway...I think a 2.5" is a waste of money...You won't lose any bottom end, especially since you can bump the timing up after the DP probably at least 8* (Can't remember how much I did)

But you have to figure...Once you get off the line, you're using all your top end.....
