i've heard about colder spark plugs for the s/c but what kind of reference should us n/a go for

On N/A you could just keep the stock heat range and be fine. I've been a huge fan of NGK platinum ones for all my N/A motors, since Iz haz no boost.

because i've read and can't remember where i saw it but it said for the n/a to run 1 heat range higher for performance

You could use a heat range COOLER (not sure why you'd want to run a higher heat range plug since it could lead to pre-igntion and KR, which will take power away), but it really won't matter that much since N/A motors aren't as prone to pre-ignition as compared to boosted motors. Now, if you're getting some valvetrain mods like rockers/cam, and such, then yeah, a step colder could help out, but on a basically stock/lightly modded N/A motor stock heat range is just fine.

NGK TR55's. I ran them with my cammed L36. Worked good
