Need help please. Need to install new plenum and gasket for daughters '99 Grand Prix due to bad water leak. Any step by step procedure available? I noticed a tag: Evap pressure one lb. maximum. Is this controlled by a solenoid in line? Looks like I will have to remove all wires, fuel rails and injectors to even get to the plenum. Would it be good idea to install new intake manifold gasket at same time?

Thanks,
Walt

I see you stopped by.
Here's a video about replacing it:

Well, it shouldnt be a water leak you are getting. Anything at the UIM/LIM would be a coolant leak. The UIM is fairly easy to do, just takes a while cuz you have to move the fuel rails, throttle body, and misc wires. I would do teh LIM gaskets anyways cuz they need to be done if the car has over 80k on it. There should be some writeups on doing LIM gaskets. I would tell you, but i would have a huge description and i dont have time to type it out right now. I should make a write up sometime with pics. That video is the best solution. Its basically the same thing once it gets to the LIM. I think in that video it also shows valve cover gaskets and rocker installation. Wouldnt hurt to do the valve cover gaskets since theres a recall on most grand prixs for engine fires.

Thanks for the info. Watched the video and it's a little scary. This GP does not have a supercharger, just the plenum, which should make it a little easier? I'll end up reviewing the video several times before getting up the nerve. One problem, I don't have a scanmaster to check any stats. Intake gasket looks like a good improvement.

Again, much thanks for your input.

Walt

You'll be fine.
Just think through what you have to remove and what you don't have to remove.
I remember my buddy [a mechanic] doing a 96' upper after the coolant passges rotted through behind the throttle body.
It wasn't too bad.
At least you came to the right place for help and info.
