Ok i know almost nothing about engines and am learning alot from this thread and of course the interwebs. What does switching out these rockers and waht not do? is it actually a performance enchancer on its own or just to tolerate the stresses of a future turbo? im asking cause im currently N/A and like to know how my car runs and waht exactly is going on inside that magic firebox i call an engine.

Rockers are like a cam, but with out the hassle of ripping open the stock cam. Oh and they are roller rockers so they reduce the stress on the valve-train too

Rockers increase valve lift, more valve lift = more air, more air = more power

even at 1.95 rockers are only about as good as a VS Cam, but even then Cam still cost too much for the gain and on a FWD car not worth it. SO Rockers are by far the better choice.

-- Sat Aug 07, 2010 6:09 pm --

With his heads and the 1mm valve oversizing he should get a huge gain up top with those rockers. You should easily see over 200whp IMO.

Where did you find the 1.95 rockers?

well I finally put the engine back together :) I test ran the engine first without coolant to see if there was any problems and nothing. Later on I poured in the coolant and let it idle and still nothing. I was running low on gas to I took a trip to the gas station near by. When into wot 2 times and GOD I felt the power! Filled her up and while I was heading back I got a REALLY bad rumble in the engine. NOOOOOO!!! So it back to drawing board again and this time I'm really checking everything.

I think it's either I didn't torque the rocker arms good enough or oil and coolant are mixing :(
I'm going to drain the coolant and test it again and is if it really is a coolant leak

oh and that wire I didn't know where it went does go to the starter.. at least I did figure that out.

Here is the worst of the stock lifters... This is why you gotta torque everything down to spec!

I looked inside the lifter holes and just saw minor damage. Just a couple of scraches on it. I was a little worried I could have flattened a lobe, but the car is running very smoothly now, thank god!

rockers are like medium easy to deal with.. alternator, tensioner, and front engine mount bracket need to be removed... maybe the S/C too, but you could work around it- it's just make things earlier I guess.

Remember that the tensioner has coolant lines going threw it. It's also a great time to get a replacement tensioner and coolant elbows- they tend to break. Mine were on the just about to give in and broke easy when I removed them. Also it's a nice time to flush coolant too.

here is a video I used has a reference...

www.youtube.com Video from : www.youtube.com

Now if you toque them down too much, the engine will not fire up due to lack of compression and if you don't tighten it up enough you get flattened lifters and maybe a badly damaged cam (I got lucky and got away with just lifters)

Our firing order is 1-6-5-4-3-2

back of the engine 2-4-6
front of the engine 1-3-5

I recommend getting some engine assembly lube too.

Oh believe me I know lol. My last W-body was a N/A Impala. Built that motor up with a GT1 cam and all the goodies.

Congrats on getting it finished successfully. You plan on getting some 1/4 mile comparisons?

I can have 1/8 soon, but 1/4 will take a while due to the track being almost next to Orlando.

So ur saying a cam that lifts more could be droped in with stock lifters and it would work? How much horse power are we talking. Sry to clutter your thread here but im always looking for something new to do to my car.

Where did you get that pointiac fuse box cover? Is that just a stick on or is it a whole new cover?

Yep, if you going for a cam it is recommended to stay 1.6 ratio ( stock ) or 1.7 ratio depending on your mods. If no cam then 1.9 on SC or 1.84 on NA and you will be set.

NOTE: Depending on the mileage of the car if you do a cam it is recommended on the high mileage cars to replace the rods and rockers due to wear points from the previous cam.

Malefic_GP - Excellent work!, made it easier from my cam and rocker install next month.

Finally I have been curious about this - factory springs, retainers, and rods?
