Car is a 2004 GP GT2, 81,000 miles. We just picked it up a week or two ago. Yesterday the engine light came on. I went to AUtozone and had them pull the code, and it was for low coolant temperature.

I bought a new 180* thermostat and will put it in tomorrow or the next day. The fluid level in the overflow tank looks normal.

Is there anything else I should look for on this? I am guessing it is probably just a stuck stat, but are there any other issues with these motors that would cause this? Also, do you think I should go ahead and flush/replace the coolant while I'm at it?

Thanks!

The 180* tstat might throw that light again actually. Not sure how finicky the 04+'s are, but if you live in a pretty cold climate (especially with winter coming up) having the 180* in will cause the car to not reach operating temp as quickly as the PCM is wanting it to and thus will throw the code again.

If the car is stock, you want 195* anyway because with no adjusted fan turn on points or any other mods that could benefit from lower operating temperatue, a 180* tstat is just a waste of time and making the car run richer and thus loosing MPG's.

Ok, thanks. All they had was 180 and 165, so I figured the 180 would be stock. I asked them, but they did not know. Knew I should have gone to Napa!
