Hey everyone,
Yet again I come to you all for help with a car that isn't mine
So here's the deal, my girlfriend's dad's 03 Le Sabre (L36 engine) is being a pain in my butt. Her dad says the car will stall completely out of the blue while coming up to a stop sign or just letting off the throttle, but it will only happen once a week or once a month. I've tried to take the car for a drive and recreate the stalling but of course that would be too easy, so I've never had it happen to me and the car is completely fine everytime I drive it. I've already cleaned the throttle body, don't plugs/wire, seafoam, checked for vacuum leaks, and nothing is helping. Also, sometimes if the car is driven for a while, then parked and is attempted to be restarted an hour or so later, it will crank, but not start, and her dad says that he has to wait 10 minutes and then it will finally start. Other than the stalling, the car seems completely fine. No rough idling, no hesitation, will do WOT throttle no problem at all (not that an "old person" car should even be at WOT). So, start spitballing ideas and I'll try them out. I'm scanning it tomorrow to see if anything pops up, but no SES code has been thrown since this started happening over a year ago.

Check the fuel filter, see if it's restricted. Check the fuel pressure at the rail; there were recalls on some Delphi fuel pressure regulators, could be part of the problem. If you can get the car to crank and not start, pull off a plug wire and check for spark. If there's no spark, crank sensor or ignition control module could be faulty.

Okay, so I haven't really had a ton of time to tinker around with the car, but the other day I hooked it up the HPT and scanned it, and for some reason KR wasn't getting a reading and whenever the car was at over 50 percent thottle timing advance would go to single digits and sometimes even go negative (-15 max). That doesn't seem good at all, but I'm not tuning expert. Is there any easy way to test the Ignition control module? I'm getting a gauge hopefully this weekend to check the fuel pressure as well.
