I'm determined to do a top swap this summer. only problem is im currently a full time student at uwoshkosh, and im only working full time during my breaks and summer. atm im trying to come up with a full list mods so i can start putting money away now. that way i should be able to start overhaul as soon as school ends. if anyone can pitch in their 2cents for EVERYTHING im going to need it would be much appreciated.
(essentials atm nothing else)

chris

PARTS LIST From ^^ Link, however, you'll want all Series III parts and a Gev V blower. Along with aluminum LIM gaskets and all the fun stuff.

Heads from SC motor (Either Series will do, all the blocks are the came so all the heads can be interchanged)
Head Bolts, can be OEM replacements or Studs, up to you(Stock are Torque to Yield(one time use)
Thread Sealer (the head bolts go into the coolant jacket, and if they aren't sealed, they will weap coolant out)
Head Gaskets
Rocker boltsSame reason as the head bolts
Valve Cover Gaskets
Harmonic Balancer From the SC motor
Tensioner for SC belt
Idlers for Sc beltThese require bolts that aren't on the L26/L36
Coil Pack BracketThe tensioner and one of the idlers bolt to the SC Coil bracket (some 97 and 98 cars may not need a different bracket)
Lower Intake Manifold from the SC motor(The bolts are the same, so you can use your old LIM bolts if needed)
Lower intake Manifold Gaskets(the Aluminum ones are the Best)
Fuel Rail(you need the one that matches your fuel system, 97-03 gets the standard rail, while 04+ needs the return-less)
Fuel InjectorsAre not a requirement, but you should run the SC injectors or better flowing units
**Injector connectors may be required on some years
Supercharger
Supercharger Gasket(If you use a Gen III M90 you need O-rings as well)
Supercharger Belt
Throttle Body from SC motor(This isn't required but recommended)
Throttle Body Gasket
Colder Thermostat I Recommend 180*, but that is all personal preference
1 Step Cooler Spark PlugsUsually recommended for the Top Swap
Fluids Oil(a change needs to be done after Swap and before engine is started) Coolant(you will loose a good amount doing the Swap
Oil FilterFor above change
Tunned PCM Stock Gt settings are way too aggressive for a SC application, I suggest a tuner, but if you don't have time, a Canned tune can work
Exhaust Manifold Gaskets (optional)

A lot of times you can find everything you need minus gaskets on the forums for $300-400. Keep an eye out for a deal and grab it when you can.

Negative. You need the heads from the S/C motor. The N/A heads don't have fuel injectors in them since the fuel injectors are in the LIM, but on the S/C engines, the fuel injectors are in the heads and not the LIM. Sorry.

@kyle, do you know which of those parts are interchange able? like is it required that my throttle body be from an 04+ or can i get it from a series 2? Also does it matter what the engines in? I mean as long as it's a series II or III and the parts are interchange able it dosen't matter if its from a bonneville or w/e?
Sorry don't mean to thread jack but i too and trying to amass the pieces to my top swap :P

EDIT:Would it affect anything if i change my cam at the same time? Once again i don't mean to thread jack

if you have an 04+ you need the newer supercharger, and tb. But if you have an older car you can get parts off of any supercharged 3.8. Well at least series II or III.

Good deal, just didn't want to go to the Junkyard looking to pull parts on an 03 ssei and they no fit on my 04 gt, i knew the super charger wouldn't work (the TB is news to my but i'm a noob so no surprise lol) but i wasn't sure about the LIM, heads, ect.

Let's just say this, if you're trying to topswap a Series III motor, get Series III parts (including the Gen V M90). End of story. You guys are scaring me with your nickle and dime modding techniques  The engine is sort of crucial to moving the car, so why cheap out and try to save a buck if it involves downgrading to older, less efficient, and higher mileage parts. Just saying...

The TB on the series III motors are drive by wire, not drive by cable like the Series II and the bolt patterns are different as well a Series III won't bolt onto a Gen III blower, and a series II TB won't bolt onto a Gen V blower. An adapter plate is required and is way too expensive IMO to justify not just getting the correct parts in the first place.

i hate nickel and diming stuff together. But sometimes i do it anyways. My motor is one thing i wont do it with though. Which is why mar car is waiting on mods yet again. Seems like evertime i plan on doin something to my car, something else that is more important comes up and takes away my mod money

Wiseguy, since you have an 04+, a top swap would be slightly more expensive due to the Gen V S/C vs the older Gen III S/C on the Series II engines. If you keep your eye out though you can still find some people selling all the hard parts for a Series III Gen V top swap for under a grand. Morad's sometimes has them, but mostly the places to keep an eye out on is forums and the junkyards.
