So I went to Advance Auto today and picked up a new Fuel Pressure regulator for my GT.. everything looked the same from the quick glance under the hood to the new part, so I went home and let the car sit for a few hours to cool down. I proceeded to de-pressurize the fuel rail and remove the regulator... once i get to out and put it side to side with the new one I realized the new regulator was way smaller than the new one and would not fit. so now I'm stuck so I call a Taxi and go back to Advance with the old Regulator in hand. the Parts guy looked a little confused as to why these 2 parts were different. so after a few minutes of trying to figure out what is going on he looks up a fuel pressure regulator for a 2000 GTP .... and that one was very similar to my old regulator.... same size and configuration ..... So my question is: was the that Advance computers just wrong or does my car have something weird going on?

Probably not.
The aftermarket sometimes likes to change things whereas GM likes to standardize them.

^^^You'll need a pair of snap ring pliers to swap it out; the last time I replaced mine, I actually had to get one from the GM dealer. As the parts guy opened the AC Delco box he said, "Let's hope it's not a Delphi." because they were being recalled. Luckily it was a Bosch, and it's been starting great every time.
