Last night I was on the highway, started to speed up to pass some other cars when the SES started flashing and the car was sputtering and loosing power.

I've recently changed the plugs, had stock Delcos, never been replaced by the looks of it. I had NGK Platinums installed by a mechanic. When he installed them i started to get misfires like crazy and threw a Cylinder 5 misfire code. They checked it and found that the wire was grounding out on the heat shield.

The car (06 N/A) has been running fine up until last night. Not sure what could be causing it. 2 weeks ago I changed the PCV valve and cleaned the MAF. I am going to take a look at everything tomorrow but I don't have a scanner so i won't be able to see if there are any codes.

Anyone have an suggestions or tips on what to look for while I'm checking everything. The plugs are approx 3k old or so (done in early July). I was planning to clean the TB and check the plugs and wires. Could it be a bad or failing ICM, where is it located? Is it a hard job to swap out?

TIA

What did you use to clean the MAF?

CRC MAF cleaner. I disconnected it, sprayed it out, let it dry for about 30 min and then reassembled it. It's been running fine for the past 2 weeks.

I recently went through this and it turned out when the mechanic put the plug wire back on the plug,he misaligned the clip in the boot with the sparkplug tip and pushed it up into the boot.
The sparkplug wire then arced to the shield when I power washed the engine.
No way it should have done that after only one year.
I pulled the wire off and to put new silicone dielectric grease in the boot and that's when I saw it.
I pushed the wire and clip back down into the boot, greased it and reinstalled it.
It clipped on nicely where it hadn't before.
All is well now.
If you can't feel the "grip" of the clip on the tip of the plug, chances are it's loose.

My GT responded exactly like yours (flashing SES light and losing power when revved) when it had a clogged cat.

Flashing SES in this case = Multiple Random Misfire DTC P0300

I think it was a random misfire. I went and checked the spark plug wires, the #5 seems a little loose. I also took the time to clean the TB while I was there and it was crusted black. When I finished i forgot to reconnect the TB cable and started the motor. Now there is a solid check engine light, I called OnStar and had them run a diagnostic probe. It came back with an intake and TB code. I reconnected everything but the code remains. I'll have to get the scanner or get a scan done to clear the code.

The code will go away on its own after a while without seeing Multiple Random Misfires for a certain amount of time. It will turn the SES light off, but will remain in the history.

If I get an Aeroforce will I be able to see the codes stored in the history or do I need a stand alone scanner for that?

It's all fixed now. Took the car to a friend, he checked everything and saw that the wires were completely dead. He installed new 4-core wires, Brisk plugs and gutted my stock air box for me. He also flipped my motor mounts. Car is running 100% better now.

Thanks for the help
