yeah, the VQ and VG30s are like the only V6s that sound decent. The RB26 is a sound all too itself... mmmm. Ours have this AWFUL raspy sound. That's why I don't have an exhaust, I do NOT like that sound. Sounds much better when all you can hear is whine... :D

Thread Hijack/Resurrection

Anybody have suggestions for the DEEPEST LOUDEST exhaust for a n/a 3800
I want to get an exhaust put on soon, but dont want anything raspy..

cant afford headers/downpipe yet.. so would be catback, also anyother suggestions

Is there an advantage to putting an actual dual-exhaust on the 3800 III engine (with 3 into 1 headers to a single muffler X2) as opposed to Y-piping the exhaust pipe and putting two mufflers on?

I'm leaning towards the better flow of gases the better so that would mean a true dualX.

Any suggestions besides actual engine work?

I'd be willing to bet that there is no gails whatsoever over a single exit. To me, it's not so much about efficiency as it is appearance.

As far as true duals, I believe it has been done with poor results.

Here's my SE with 2.5" catback, res/u-bend delete, and Flowmaster 40's

You need 2 more pistons for exhaust to sound any good above 2000 RPMs. Proven fact. V6s sound like shit.

nissan's six sounds amazing, but ur right, my dad's gto and the trans am stock systems sound so much better than mine, but i cant dd drive them lol

well now that its gettin warmer some miles on the dp i really like the sound of my car, still disapeers at the top rpm's but it has gotten better with the warmer weather

part of the issue is that as you get on the gas the rpms increase, more exhaust flow.... out the back, while you go forward, so your exhaust will sound very quiet at WOT. EVERYONE says my car is loud, and other then a mild drone around under 2K ive never noticed it. let a buddy of mine run it at an autoX a few events back and  f****r is LOUD. not sure how i feel about the rasp about 3750 or so, but decel from 4k+ sounds sick nasty. Ive had to pop the hood on multiple occasions to prove its a N/A v6.

mods are a 3" SLP off the headers all the way back, no resonator, high flow cat, and SLP muffs, dont know off the top of my head what model since the PO [also my roomate] did the exhaust before i got the car off him.

but you will never get that throaty american muscle sound out of a V6, you need an 8 to get that sound, since it comes from the difference in firing order. my 305TBI camaro with Dynomax Superflo [or some such thing] axle back sounded infinatly more badass then my GP ever will N/A... now add a snail in there and its a whole new ball game, but it wont ever be near as deep and throaty, which im mildly miffed about [what can i say, i like my exhaust like i like my bjs....]

I think people are too worried about the raspy tone. Don't like it, get a VQ35.. Otherwise there's no escaping it after exhaust work

No rasp here!! :D You just have to play with it to get it right. Everyone says Flowmaster's sound horrible on these cars and I disagree.

My XP setup, Catless Pacesetter's, Stock GM Res., Custom 3" Exhaust into Flow 40's with 2 1/2" Tips.

And I also agree, most any exhaust on these cars sound like crap. Especially resonator deleted cars...keep the res. get rid of the cat.

But you get my point...throw out the resonator and hello even crappier sounding exhaust then before...

If you want a nice sounding car then sell your 3800 powered car, because they all sound like shit.
