Had a check engine light come on today just as I was about to leave from school. My DIC flashed Reduced Engine Power and Service Traction Control flash really quick, and I haven't seen it again. But my check engine light stayed on so I took it to Advance Auto to have them scan it, and they said it was the Idle Air Control "Module", or valve or whatever you wanna call it. It's my understanding that a bad IAC would either cause the car to start and idle very roughly or not start at all. And to top it all off, the car idles perfectly and did even when the check engine light came on. I have cleaned the throttle body, the MAF, I've got new plugs and wires. I don't know what else could cause the CEL to come on. Any other suggestions?

Also, where is the IAC on this engine? I knew where it was on my LQ1 Cutlass, but I haven't had the need to look for it on this car. Figured I'd clean it and see if it helps anything.

The IAC valve is right above the TPS sensor on the throttle body. It has 2 sercurity torx bits holding it in. The ones I've cleaned were exteremly dirty and the idle seemed fine when they were dirty. Hope that helps a little.

Thanks but unfortunately that doesn't help, cause that doesn't look anything like my throttle body.

Whoops, totally missed that you have a 2004 which is a drive by wire TB in which case it technically doesn't have a IAC valve, it just opens the throttle plate electronically by itself to control the idle. I have no idea what could cause that CEL though other than the TB itself flaking out.

My 2007 GT 3008 recently did the same thing. The check engine light recently came on with the DIC (reduced engine power) flash. What did you end up doing? I just recently hit the 100k mark and have yet to take my car in for a tune up thus far.. also the gas cap message came up on the DIC as well.. Appreciate your feedback! Dean

The gas cap message is either due to the gas cap itself not sealing properly or the evap purge on the filler neck. There's a couple threads on here about that if you do a search for it. As for the Reduced Engine Power. I have no idea. Jason might be able to step in and shed some light on the topic though.

Reduced engine power is just the car telling you it's in limp mode. Once you get the evap code sorted out it will probably go back to normal. Disconnect the battery for a while to reset the PCM to clear any codes
