So I have this new problem and I don't know what it is !!! Every time I go to start my car it acts like it dosnt want to start it will just sit there a sputter tell eventoualy I have to hold it for like 5 sec then it starts but hard. I have no idea what it could be I just recently took the plastic piece out of my air plenum and cleaned that and the MAF sensor. But it worked fine for like 3 weeks after I did this and now all of a sudden I have this problem. Do you think it is fuel pump?? I really hope not. But I need help so hopefully the GPONA community can help me with it.

Same thing happened to me. You could use some soda to clean them off or a wire brush- I do both.

Well I cleaned the battery and replaced the fuel filter with a wix and still wont start right away you have to turn the key off then on off again then on again and then start it. This is really getting annoying so if you have anymore ideas that would be great. Thanks for the help

It sounds like your fuel system isn't holding pressure when you turn the car off.
If you shut the car off and start it up again a few minutes later, does it balk or startup fine?
If you wait longer between startups,is the car harder to start?

Yup if I drive for a long period of time and turn it off then with in like 10 mins if I start it up again it will fire right up but if I let it sit for awhile then it wont fire up right away like you said it seems like it looses pressure. Any ideas or do you think I need a new fuel pump???

I wouldn't condemn the fuel pump just yet.
I'm a little fuzzy on the 04' fuel system, but IIRC,you have a return line and regulator on the rail.
Correct?
I think 05' was the start of the "returnless systems"...a *bit of a lie* because the regulator is part of the fuel pump unit in the tank.
Getting back:
The regulator could be leaking fuel into the return system.
An injector could be leaking down.
The check valve in the pump output could be leaking.
Are you detecting any kind of miss in the car when it's running?
Bad mileage?
You could try a mechanic's stethoscope on the body of each injector and see if they all sound crisp.
You *might* find one sounding dull or funny.
Pull the vacuum line on the regulator and see if any fuel comes out the port when the engine is running [ruptured diaphragm].
If that checks out okay, you can clean the regulator seat with carb cleaner once it's removed.
Using a hand held vacuum pump, you can apply vacuum to the port and backflush through the connection to the return line with the cleaner.
If that doesn't do it,try some good fuel system cleaner/lubricant like Lucas.
It does work.......just don't exceed the recomended dose per tank.
It may take a few tanks to work, but it is good.

Good luck.
I had to edit my above post.
It should have read "don't exceed the recommended dose of Lucas".
My bad.
You'd probably be okay,but I wouldn't.

I dont know if thats causing your problem but you should replace the gas cap if it doesn't seal properly.

what did u use to clean the MAF? you might have killed it. Could also be the fuel pressure regulator. No MIL? If so get a scan and post!!

The other thing that this sounds like is an IAC motor. Problem for the '04+ cars is that most likely, it is integrated in to the throttle body. Also, check your air filter. My Volvo acted like your car to SOME degree, and the air filter was plugged.

I'm having the same problem with my 97 gtp
I just posted a blog about it and seen this one
so I thought I would comment.
I have replaced the pump and regulator and
it is still doing it. I hate trial and error! I'm
going to try ignition module and coil packs
next. I'll let you kno wat happens.
