Not really. Other types of cars a little more "chipable" i.e. Honda's have Hondata or something like that, Euro's have flashable software like Unitronic, APR, Revo, GIAC, etc and some physical chips that can be soldered onto the ECU. But for GM's it more or less get a box tuned PCM from some place like ZZP and others or just find someone with a tuner and get a custom tune which would be your best bet since there isn't much in the way of aftermarket PCM's for the 60 degree V6. If you can find someone with a tuner you could get a good custom tune for a case of beer or maybe a 100 bucks if you have to pay for tuner credits for the registering of your VIN. Either way, it's cheaper/same price than a "Chip".

Edit: I just checked ZZP and it doesn't look like they have a 3.1 tune, just a 3.4 tune for the Impala's. I'm sure someone else could be more of a help though since I'm not hugely familier with the 3.1 but do know quite a bit about the 3.4 not that it helps.

i actually walked into a performance shop today and asked about what they have to offer and he brought up this jet programmer for 300 bucks. Has anyone tried it or is it better to just tune ur pcm and be done with it until you keep modding?

-- Thu Oct 28, 2010 4:01 pm --

where is the best place to get a tuner for a pcm from? BRand etc. or just send yours in to get tuned?

300 bucks!?!?!?!?!?!?! Holy crap. You could buy your own tuner like HPtuner for just slightly more and tune your car yourself (and other cars if you really wanted to).

If you can't find someone with a tuner in your area, this place offers tuned PCMs for the 3100 & 3400: http://www.milzymotorsports.com/
You would have to send them your PCM (or a spare one) to be reflashed, or pay a $100 core charge. Hope that helps!

with supported exhaust and intake mods along with the zzp list of mods you should do would it be safe to throw a smaller pulley on before a pcm tune or will I want that pcm ready to go before i install a 3.4 pulley?

Whao, wait, what pulley. This is the 60 degree V6 section. No superchargers here. This changes everything.

Well the Jet performance = crap part still stands, but let's get this whole engine stuff cleared up first.

I did some creeping and he has a 98 GTP. Things just got a lot easier. Those 60 degree V's are a pain to find anything for.

This is 3100 & 3400 engine section. If you have 3800 engine. I guess you enter wrong section.

Which one, the OP or Baker or both?

Oh, whoops. I totally thought the OP was Baker. Good catch. Baker has the 98 GTP. No idea about the OP. So maybe he is in the right section... however, Baker, you are not.

Well in that case, I'll answer Baker even though he's in Pat's house.

Baker you will be better off getting the PCM before dropping the pulley size. Not only do you have timing issues and KR to consider, but a smaller pulley will also change your air/fuel ratio. It's best to have all that tweaked to match the pulley, otherwise, you may actually slow yourself down instead of gaining power.

A while back a guy tested the Jet Chip on a Dyno and got a whooping 1HP increase. Asked Jet they said it takes time to get a decent HP. Went back after having it on the car and had a 2HP decrease.
He never sold it, he wanted to test it before he sold it.

I bought the stage 2 jet chip 2nd hand for like 30$ when I had my 1st GP. I think I paid 25$ for it and I think it was a wasted 25$. It didn't do a single thing that I could tell.
