i found one on craigslist for 1300, probly talk them down. its a 1993 GTP looks like its got a new inspection sticker (its red) and you know as a DD who really cares?
i figured GPONA would be the best place to ask anything about this (duh). but the VW is dieing and im getting rid of it ASAP before its too late and with that money it will go to my tranny swap for the 98 and to buy this GP. this weekend i may go look at it, depending on what all of you have to say ive heard mixed reviews about it

THANKS!

93 GTP? That should be the 3.4 DOHC motor. Pain the ass. But has more power than a GP GT. They never came supercharged.

For a second I thought you were talking about the 3400 but they only made like 500 eaton superchargers for that motor.

x2 on the motor being a PITA. (belt driven timing)
These put out somewhere in the 210hp range.
But if your just out for looks, dont get the 3.4 IMO. Shoot for the RPO code B4U on any early 90's model.

T-charged (3100) one was called the LG5 (produced by McLaren)
The 3.4 (NA) is called the LQ1

The LG5 was the only non NA you will find in 88-96's...

Yea maybe you got confused with the grand prix turbo, which was only produced in '89 and '90. The GTP was jsut a 'performance package' with no supercharger untill '97.

Basically, a gtp isn't supercharged unless it's a 97-03 or 04-05.

WHAT ARE YOU ALL TALKING ABOUT!?!?!?!

the 3.4 was an engineering marvel!

it combined the power of an inline 4 with the fuel efficiency of a v8!

The dohc 3.4 was a pain in the ass to work on. it was one of gm attemps at over head cam. they had no bottom end power but ok top end.

the bottom end of the motor looks just like a regular single center cam motor with normal timing chain then off where the center cam would be is a cam with out lobes. the timing belt is connected to that.

I rebuilt one and i hope never to do it again.

The 99+ GA did come with a 3400. The 3400 in the GA was simply an overbored 3100 IIRC.

That would have been the concept GA. Never went to production. Yes, Mike, the 3400 is a 3100 with a 3mm larger bore.

I somewhat agree, and somewhat disagree. I owned a 95 Z-34 Monte b4 I moved here to Florida. That LQ1 motor actually got very good mileage on the highway (about 420 miles on a tank). I drove it from Rochester, NY to Ottawa, Illinois on little less then 1.5 tanks. And drove it from Rochester NY to down here in Englewood, Fla in just a hare under 4 tanks total. (and that was doing 80 mph the whole way.

Around town.....lets say its not the mileage that an L36 gets, but id have to say it was about the same as my L67 around town on gas, if yer gentle on it. You start rompen on it around town (as I was doing w/ that Z34) and yer city mileage is shit in the LQ1.

Yeah. I managed a good 29-31mpg on the highway, cruise set at 73mph with mine. Around town, I'd figure 17-20, but I don't have a light foot, either. :P
