I have a quetion about making a custom intake tube for my 3.1L, i have already done a little tubing already, but i wanted to get rid of the rippled tube, but i hit a snag with that........

Question: Can i make a custom tube out of PVC Pipe to replace the rippled tube(Outlined in White)? Is it possible to just drill two holes for the sensors(In Red),and just attach the MAF sensor(In yellow) to the other tubing?????

Thanks For Ur Guys HELP! :)

Yeppers it is. My my friends 01 Impala, 3.4 so still a 60 degree V6, we actually just moved the MAF up to the throttle body and put a coupler on it and then drilled 2 holes in the tube in front of the MAF for the IAT sensor and PCV breather. So bascically we just took the rippled black tube completely out and just made the intake tub one big long piece instead of splitting it up into to smaller pieces seperated by the MAF. We scanned the car afterward and there didn't seem to be any effect on having the MAF closer to the TB, at least that's according to HPtuner and it's been like that for a year with good results. Hope that helps. I can get a picture of the setup from my friend later today since the only pics I have of his car includes a turbo and wouldn't show what you're asking.

Thanks alot, only one more question, could i keep the MAF in the same loaction and just use two different pieces, and get a slight hp gain, yeah mite only be like .5 of a horse, but its something, or would u suggest just a long tube like any normal intake system would offer, and do u know what size drill bit the sensors used to create the hole???? Thanks

You could leave the MAF in the same location, we just put it up to the TB so we could use one less coupler (modding on the cheap). It shouldn't really matter though on any sort of gains since any flow turbulance that the MAF could cause being right in front of the TB would be cancelled out by the fact that there are less bends and less couplers that the air has to flow passed. But in all honesty either would work, whatever you're comfortable with doing. If you're going for a "cleaner" look, then I'd go with one long straight piece, but if you want more stockish look, go with the 2 tube setup. Either should perform about the same as long as the pieces are mostly staright (remember straighter pieces = more air flow velocity. Also, one thing that I might add, not trying to be a Debby Downer, but the current bend you have right before the MAF could actually throw your MAF readings off ever so slightly and actually cause a loss in power (though it would be a very small loss). The goal is to ensure that there is mostly straight piping going to the MAF so the flow rate and density would be uniform within the entire cross section of the MAF.

As for the holes, I honestly don't remember what size they were, but what we did was drilled the holes out just slightly bigger than the IAT and PCV breather, and then put rubber grommets (pic) in the hole to make a nice snug fit and clean looking install. I also dont' remember what size those grommets were, but they are sold at any hardware store (Home Depot, Lowes).

Hope that helps some.
