Anyone know much about the 98 series 3100 engines? Thinking about getting, what looks/sounds like, a drivable and nice car for one grand for my roomate. Comments? Also, do these cars have a decent reputation? I know more about the 3800 series III engines.

my brother had a 98 se 3.1 for his first car. They can take quite a beating too. It had 194,000 mile on it when we sold it. It had stuck lifters, and the water pump was gunna go pretty quick too. It didnt look the best because of the rusty rocker panels, but it took a beating. Overall the 3.1 is a good motor too, but it all comes down to maintenence. SO look it over good, listen for abnormal things, if the rockers are staring to rust be careful, and go with your gut.

3100's are stout motors. Just dog slow. If you have issues with it, could always 3400 swap

Seriosuly though for $1k look over it WELL! That would be a steal!
