The 60* engines prefer their boost from turbochargers. That said, there are centrifugal blower setups out there, primarily for N-Body cars. Check out Milzy and see what he has for forced induction setups.

What Joe said. Go turbo. There's actually a guy on youtube I found that has a '96 3100 turbo'ed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdDm_Tz0NNo
That's what I want to do, except I will probably have to get a different car to do it with...damn OBD-II testing.

Ditto on turbo. My friend and I turboed his 3400 (same basic engine as the 3100 since they are both the 60 degree) in an Impala and it turned out pretty well. He's still only running low boost since it's a DD and he's stuff working out the tune, but for a big car its pretty quick now. There was one company (RSM I believe) that made a S/C for the 60 degree V family, but the bearings sucks and would kill the S/C pretty quick apparently. If you really wanted to go S/C you could probably run the M62 S/C with a drive shaft run off the serpentine belt. Seems like a common thing to do with the 3400 guys so the 3100 would work as well.

thought it was mistype 3800 instead 3100. If people ask me get 3800 supercharger on my car. It would be awesome if supercharger work on 3100 engine. I would tell them hey I still have supercharger on my 3100 engine

+1 for the turbo. a lot more potential for the same, if not less money.

And the S/C for like the one shown are known to have bearing failure.

I wonder how difficult it would be to put better bearings in it before it was installed.

That's a good question. Not sure. I've also read somewhere that some guys use the TRD Scion tC S/C (similar to the one in the picture). Not sure how hard it is to retrofit it onto the 60 degree V6's but that would be cool to see.

GM uses to offer a M62 from magnuson for the 3x00. it was part of the SC/T kit

Image

whe it was still available it was even covered but the normal warrenty if a dealer put it on. bumped hte GA from 175hp to 220hp with about 5psi.

it was surprisingly slow. and the transmission (4t45) hated it. and yes plug changes sucked but they lasted 50,000 miles. the S/C has to be removed to get to the front three

The s/c on the cobalt ss has to come off to change the s/c pulley..but its extremely easy to remove, some guys pull the s/c when changing the oil to get at the oil filter without the TB being in the way.

+1 turbo here as well, im the friend planeboy18 mentioned who build the turbo, it would be a bit more work than the supercharger, but well worth it in the end. If you want to know more about it or some advice I can help you with that. Also i was thinking of possibly making another kit this summer, and doing a write up as i go if you would be intrested in something like that.
