Well, I think I'm finally going to take a leap into the world of G8, but don't know wether to trade the GP in or sell privately. I doubt the stealerships will give me much for her, so I'll ask for your guys's opinions.

Mine's a 2004 GT, no rust or body damage what-so-ever, New engine with 60,000km but 236,000km on the rest. All maintenance kept up, synthetic oil changes every 5,000. She's galaxy silver/galaxy grey, no sun roof, cloth interior (charcoal), probably sell with the foose 19's. No major performance goodies to hinder the price. Dynomax exhaust, K&N CAI. I don't even know where to start for a price tag. Any suggestions??

Somebody sold the Inferno hood from Lethbridge, and you have the Inferno lower fascia so thought it might have been from your car.

use kelly blue book or nada to see what your local market is going for, i would also check your local for sale stuff and see what others are selling for..

for the wheels i think you give to me and help may my car that much better.... jk. but if your trading it in i would pull them off as they will do very little if anything to your price (if you have stockers to put on it) even when selling private (which would be the better option if you can/ have the time to wait) i would sell the wheels seperate, or negotiate a little extra for them..

i would also see what the dealer would give you for it too. with everyone being broke it could be a bit harder to sell private, so a little less may be worth it just so you dont have to wait forever.

One thing that's goin to lower the price is that the engine was replaced...scares a lot of potential buyers away. Dealership would of course rape you on the price so I would sell through a private party. Whats the KBB value? As far as the rims I would throw those into the asking price plus it might help the car get more attention and reel in potential buyers.

KBB says 6k private, 4k trade in. Wouldn't a new engine be an attractive feature instead of one with 240ish k? Still has 3 year 160k warranty on new engine... might play in my favour no? If I could get 6k, I'd be more than happy as that is a pretty hefty downpayment on a $25k G8. What kind of luck has anyone else had selling theyre GP's on here? Satisfied with what you've got from selling?

A new engine can go both ways. Some people will pay more for a lower mile engine, others will interpret it as "why did the first engine need replaced so soon in the first place?" and thus believe you beat on the car or neglected it somehow and therefore chances are the new engine could also be neglected/abused. Also, having a new engine installed leave more questions as to how qualified or carefully was the new engine installed. So based on that, KBB generally goes down when taking into account a new engine being installed, but if you find the right buyer, they'll pay more for a new engine. It's all about what people are willing to pay for what you have.
150k miles isn't much for a 3800 ;-)

^ Exactly if anything I would see if the warranty on the engine is able to be trans to the new owner if so more of a +. If not I would not mention engine has been replaced just imo. It's a good buy for 4k...6k is going to be hard to find due to engine and economy issues. Grand Prixs really don't have a good resell value.

Its hard to say what car prices are like in Alberta (for me) as Im in Ontario, but I can tell you that it seems GPs hold more value in the USA in general than they do here in Canada.. sadly.

If you have the documentation for the mileage and said engine replacement, I think it will help your cause. If you trade it, demod it (obviously). You might find a young guy that digs it the way it is and get a better dollar for it.

In a perfect world, Id say 6-7 grand, but we all know the world aint so perfect these days...

And that's not Galaxy Silver my friend... That would be Graystone Metallic. :)

Matt show me where the check box is for reduced value for an engine replacement on KBB's website.

I got $6000 for my 2004 Comp G when I traded it for my G8 and that was back in 2008, so $4000 seems like a great price for a 2004 GT from the dealer.

x2 Just call it a complete engine overhaul. "New engine" always sounds sketchy.

KBB is only good for inflating/deflating the price of a vehicle. It's worth what people will pay for it, and to most people, an engine being replaced is a major turnoff. I skipped over multiple STi's on my car hunt because they all had engines replaced. I don't care if there's a warranty, or you tell me a good reason, or whatever, engine replacement = person beat on the car and/or didn't take care of it. This isn't always the case, but that's the default thought.

There's no check box, but it does mean the car does not have all original parts and mileage of engine vs body is not the same, thus "condition" is questionable depending on who is looking at the car.

I've been looking at 2010 Chargers since my wife wants one. They are around $15K so it seems like all car prices are down except for the G8. They are still going for around $25 for the most part.

-- Tue Jan 31, 2012 12:18 am --

Matt and Kyle I was referring to trade in value. I agree that a private party would be suspicious of an engine replacement which would likely reduce their offer.

I can see the logic with the new engine being an issue to some. BTW, paint IS galaxy silver according to paint code. Had to get touch up paint from GM and that's what the label stated. General car values in general don't hold much here in Alberta for some reason. Maybe because everyone prefers 4x4 trucks and SUVS. Most I've found listed are going anywhere between $4500-$6000 with comparable mileage. But I think the new engine is gonna hurt the price tag, now that I see it from another perspective... I'm still getting that damned G8, even though it's gonna cost a minimum $25000 for the GT... Did GM implement it's active fuel management system on the 6.0L? It is to my understanding that they did. Just wondering.... And how is the 3.6L?

For a trade in, just keep your mouth shut about the engine all together  But yeah, I see where you're coming from, and I should have worded that post better in the first place.

The V8 has AFM but I disabled it with my tuner since the motor lugs and vibrates when going around 40-45 mph. I'm getting 18 mpg with it off so I'm happy. The V6 is just under 300hp but there's no mods for it. The V8 has tons of mods for it and responds well to them since it has the high flow LS3 heads.

Fellas kbb does not apply in the cdn market unless we are talkin a USA buyer.

Donnie r I've seen g8 Gts on cars.com and autotrader.com for under 25k in the us market but normally with higher miles...

Colour: it seems we have another issue then... If your cars paint code is galaxy silver, then your car started out life the same colour as mine bc my car really is galaxy silver. I have all the sales brochures and dealer literature from 2004 and was going through it last night... That is definately graystone metallic or possibly some custom colour...

Image

Image

Trading it in though I wouldnt say anything... Unless its some sort of really expensive paint job if course... :)

Either way, its a nice car, so I hope you get a good buck for it.

Yeah that defiantly looks like Graystone Metallic and not Galaxy Silver. Not that it really all that matters since the only people that would even know the difference is a bunch of GP goons like us
