Today i drove on the interstate for the first time, as i got around the speeds of 75 i know i know speeding a bit  but i notice that my car was shaking i could feel it in the steering wheel and i could feel the it through floor of the car. but goes away as i drive ?? The entire front end including the shocks to the struts where replace. Another thing even though i was going straight the steering wheel looking like I was making a slight turn to the right, less noticeable when going 60 mph. Thats probably a alingment thing, but the shaking?

I do have studs on but that shouldn't do anything major other than the road noise drove me nuts the first time driving the car  but beginning to tone it out now

Did you get an alignment after the stuff in the front was replaced?

Get an alignment and make sure your wheels are properly balanced. It sounds like an off balance wheel to me. But the alignment will take care of straightening the steering wheel and may help the noise also

It could be warped brake rotors or a bad tire/bent wheel.

I'd start with wheel out of balance. Then the other suggestions already mentioned.

I had it happen once that, after a major winter storm, there was an ice build-up on
the inside of my rear rims. Didn't feel it until I hit about 35 then all hell broke loose.
Thought the wheels were falling off (this was on my '89 Turbo GP).

Pulled over to the side and whacked the crap out of it until the ice broke.

Just a thought if you're in a snowy climate, OP.

Yeah.. I was thinking ice in the wheel, bad balance (thrown weight?), bent rim (wouldn't go away after continuous driving), either inner or outer or even both tie rod ends (if loose enough could cause a wobble, too.. but wouldn't go away after continuous driving)

sorry i put that in wrong the shaking doesn't go away.... its not as noticable as i keep driving. but i don't even feel the shaking at all when going 60 mph just going 73 mph is when in starts. Another thing is that at the higher speed the car is harder to keep in lane that I would find myself fighting not going over the line. hmmm, maybe because just been darn windy lately?

Wandering car and crooked steering wheel.... so about that alignment  And as KTrazy mentioned, now is a good time to check those tie rods for play and mind as well check the wheel bearings for play while you're there.

is the tie rods something that can affect the alignment? or can i get the alignment first then the tie rods first or is it the other way?

Tie rods have everything to do with alignment. You don't need to replace them if they aren't worn and have play in them, but if they do, they need to be replaced before an alignment (most shops will even tell you they won't do an alignment if the tie rods have play in them)

Worn tie rods will definitely cause the car to shake. I had the same problem with my 99 GP and it went away when new ones were installed.

As for the "wandering", you said it was windy. I've noticed that my car gets blown around pretty badly on a windy day out on the highway. I'm not saying that there isn't something mechanically wrong that might be causing the wandering, but do yourself a favor and try it again on a calmer day.

In the OP's first post he said the entire front end was replaced, and I'm assuming that includes the tie rods too, yet he asks about having them replaced. So were they replaced or weren't they?

Whoah, let's back up a second here. So the wandering is occurring with STUDDED tires on bare asphalt? That's surely not helping high speed straight line maintenance. ;-)

And what's this noise you're hearing when turning the wheel? The test to check tie rods ends is extremely simple and much more accurate than guessing at a noise. Just jack the front tires off the ground, grab the wheel/tire at the 3o'clock and 9o'clock position and attempt to wiggle the wheel/tire back and forth. If it feels solid, the tie rod is more than likely good, if there is play or a slight wiggle, the tie rod end is toast. I'd suggest doing this since of all the tie rod ends I've seen fail, I've never once heard one make a noise other than vibration like noise which could also be felt inside the car. Not saying they can't make a sound that would indicate a failure, it's just I've never heard one that would make me say "Oh yeah that's 100% a bad tie rod." Either way, an alignment shop would be able to tell you if one or both have failed or not, I just don't trust shops all the time and would like to know the "real" information myself beforehand, but that's just me

Well alright..

If you're getting wandering when going over bumps or on a windy day, a loose tie rod will definitely make the car wander more than normal. When you bring your vehicle to the shop.. BEFORE having them perform a 4-wheel alignment, ask them to check the tie rods and make sure they don't have any play in them.. It's super easy - like Planeboy18 stated, and shouldn't incur additional labor charges.. If they want to charge your additional labor - find yourself another shop, because they're playing you. Plane Jane and simple. Thank the Lord my dealership is actually one of the very few honest shops in the Twin Cities.

If you have a jack and a couple of stands, jack your car up on one side, place a stand underneath the jack and lower the jack slowly so that the vehicle lays on the stand. Repeat on the other side. Check tie rods for play.. If tie rods don't have any play, then proceed to get the alignment performed. If they do have play in them, replace them first at the shop of your choice, then perform the alignment.

During an alignment, it's the tie rods that get adjusted. No use in adjusting something that's already loose and needs replacing anyhow, right?

They won't align the car until ALL PARTS in the front end are good so no need to ask them. And most places don't charge you for an alignment check if it's within specs.

just got the car back from the shop, apparantly the noise i was hearing was the front tires rubbung because the tie rods were pretty much gone apparantly everytime a turn was made the front wheels would woble hence the rubbing and noise. And they were suppose to be new !!!

So now i got the tie rods replaced and an alignment done and all 4 wheels rebalanced.

I'll know tomorrow if that did the trick, there's a snow storm right now studded tires can only do so much ;)
