It just started today at work. I was coming out the door, went to remote start it and the alarm sounded. I pushed the panic button to get it to stop. And tried it again with the same result.

What could it be?

Is it a factory remote start? I had one out of a few remotes I programmed to my 06 that when I would press the start button it would be just like hitting the panic button.
Tried reprogramming it and same result so I chucked it and moved to the next one.

Replacements can be had for cheap on ebay and the dealer can program them unless you know someone with an 00-05 impala you can follow the directions in the sticky in the 04-08 section :)

Yeah, it's the factory remote start. It's worked fine for the last 1 1/2 yrs, it just started doing it today.

Try to reprogram the FOB, if that doesn't work then you need to buy a new one.

I had the same problem. My remote just started setting off the alarm trying to autostart out of no where. After more than a month of freezing my buns off in the morning I finally tried my other remote and it autostarted with no problem. No idea what happened to the other remote, I just dont use it anymore since its a spare. Never got around to opening it, some one said it may have got wet and cause a short or a wire could have crossed with the panic button or something of that sort. All I know is my other remote worked so I dont really care lol.

Take it apart and check it out.
You may need it one day.

I was planning on fixing mine if I ever bought a switchblade converter.

I took it apart and seen that the hoop that the battery slides in was broke off the solder in two places. I had the maint. shop at work resolder it and it still does it. :(

When I bought my car they only gave me one remote and two keys. And I can't afford to go buy a new remote and reprograming.

Mine also does this. After doing some researching, I found that if you hit the lock and start button at the same time, it will start. I tried it and it has been working that way for some time now. Still trying to figure out why though.
